Calories burned while bicycling with a 100lb trailer attached?!?!?!

Quote  |  Reply

How can I figure out how many calories are burned while I cycle and tow my kids behind me in a trailer?

I have compared cyclling with and with out them.

With them I break out into a sweat after about 3 minutes. IM outta breath, and can feel the strain in my legs from the extra 100lbs. I love it though.

Anyone have an idea on how to calculate this?

I suggest that you get a heart rate monitor.  I got mine at Sports Authority (on sale) for $60.  It calcs the calories for me based on my age, weight, height and heart rate.  When I'm biking (just me on a road bike), I typically burn ~750 per hour.

I have a Polar F6, but didnt wear it. It seems like it couldnt accurately calculate the 100lbs of resistance anyway.

ANyone else have an idea?

Your heart will  have to work a lot harder to lug around an extra 100 pounds, so that will probably be the best way to get it.  You could also try:

Your right.

I saw you have an F6 also.

What setting would I choose for the ride with the trailer, light or moderate?

Make sure you wear the chest band, too... and choose moderate as the setting.  That is going to give you the best possible reflection of what you actually are burning.  :)
