Calories Burned at a Swim Meet?
I've always wondered how many calories I burn at a swim meet, counting warm ups, actual events, and wondering about I've calculated about 500 calories so far (not bad). But I was wondering about how much you all think I'd burn at cheering.
Yep
I spend a good portion of the time cheering, at least 45 minuets, which includes jumping about, waving arms, screaming, etc. etc. Which activity do you think I could put it in as, I think standing would be to gentle and dancing too much. Any opinions?
I haven't checked....but is jumping jacks an activity on here??? Perhaps you could add it as that, or something of the equivalent! I swam my whole life, and at the meets, the cheering always seemed like jumping jacks :)
What events do you swim? How much, including warm-up, are you swimming?
I typically swim about 1500-2000 yards at swim meets, and then spend the rest of the 5 hour meets cheering... so I just eat like a normal day, but higher carb percentage (granted, if I go over, I don't mind at all! Actually, trying to gain...).
Really, if you think about it, a 2 hour workout is longer duration and intensity than a swim meet- your heart rate is high for longer periods of time during practice than at a meet.
But honestly, just have fun with it!
I agree. However, In my experience, racing gets my heartrate up for longer, like High Intensity training, even though the total distance and time is shorter, so I guess it will probably be about half of a 2-hr practice, probably around your estimated 500 calories (esp when swimming butterfly :) ). Unfortunately, I have the really bad habit of snacking when there is food available, so I eat a lot more on my meet days even though I shouldn't. Thanks for asking this question--I had a meet this weekend and actually just looked up cheering! :)
Speedangel- again, you don't need to worry about eating too much. Your weight is perfectly healthy- ESPECIALLY as a swimmer. I've gotten hypothermia at meets and had to DROP OUT of a race since I was shaking and couldn't swim.
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
