Calories burned while working

Quote  |  Reply

Hello,

I am new to this, started the beginning of this week (yipee).  I have a question regarding how to calculate the calories I have burned while working.  I am a ICU nurse and work 12 hour shifts, under the exersice search it asks for total minutes.  I am not continuously moving about the entire 720 minutes.  Can anyone give me some advice on how I can make an approximate estimate?

Thanks for your advice!

Lynnette,

The best thing to do is nothing. Do not log it in only log in your excerise or if you run, stuff that gets your heart going. Try also changing your profile to Light Activity.

If you can wear one while working I would suggest a pedometer. It shows the steps I've taken and the amount of time walked (among other things). They are easy to use and I got mine for around $25. Mine shows calories burned as well but I'm not entirely sure it's accurate so I use this website and time walked for calorie burn. If you don't want to buy a pedometer, maybe try to estimate your activity for a short period of time - say 30 minutes (how many minutes of the 30 did you walk around). Then you can extrapolate that to the 12 hours. Not sure how realistic that is for an ICU nurse but you might be able to at least get a rough estimate.
