Calories Burnt

Quote  |  Reply

Hello all,

I am just wondering, I am quite active 6-7 days of the week, at least for an hour a day. I also work a sit down job in an office. I selected 'Lightly Active' in my calorie profile.

What I am wondering, should I still log my daily exercise? Or is that already counted in my original burn amount. If I added that exercise would I be over estimating my total burn amount for the day?

Should I select Sedentary and then just add my daily exercise?

Thanks in advance for the input.

One more thing:

Would the daily exercise raise my resting (basal) calorie burn rate because of raising my metabolism over time? If that is the case, then I should track all my exercise calories anyway right?

Hey,

I have a desk job as well and I set my activity meter to sedentary (since I cannot promise I will average the "light activity" setting).  I do log in my exercises, though, into my activity log to give me a better idea of how many calories I have burned on top of what my body burns throughout the day.  For your second comment, daily exercise does raise your resting heart rate, which, in turn, will increase your metabolic rate and ultimately will allow you to burn more calories when doing nothing.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for your reply.

So if I commit to at least light exercise every day (which I do) I can select that option and still add my daily exercise to my log which adds more burnt calories to my meter?

I try to walk around the office and go for long brisk walks at lunch, plus my activity off work hours. My only worry is that I might be over estimating my calories burnt by logging my exercise when maybe it is already counted for in my daily burn (from selecting light activity).

Hi Shara:

If i were you, i'd select sedentary and add activity over it, because dont forget, that although your metabolism might increase over time, your body also just keeps getting used to the exercise you do, which makes it easier for your body to do the same level or type of exercise after a while.

Selecting light exercise level would mean that you are not going to log your activity seperately, because that does get included in your total calorie burn meter.

Sounds good! Thanks for the clarification.

Should I log my hours of desk work daily then? or only my exercise?

Sorry for all the questions, sometimes figuring out how much you are actually burning is frustrating.
