Is Butter Healthy?

Butter is one of the oldest foods known to humankind. It is referenced from over 4500 years ago, and is even referenced in the Bible! In recent years, however, it developed a bad reputation because it was thought to raise cholesterol, cause heart disease and metabolic syndrome, and more. But in reality, is butter good for you, or is butter unhealthy? As all foods, in moderation, butter can be enjoyed guilt-free. There are actually some great health benefits of butter! What is in butter that makes it good for you? It is full of vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as several minerals, including iodine and selenium. It also protects against gastrointestinal infections in the young and elderly, tooth decay, stiff joints, and cancer. It is also rich in antioxidants good for overall health.

What Can Substitute Butter?

The most common substitute for butter is margarine, but it does not offer the butter health benefits mentioned above. At one point, it was thought that margarine was healthier than butter, but in reality butter, especially organic and raw butter, is much healthier. This is because it is natural, whereas margarine is made chemically and is considered a processed food. If you are worried about the fat and calories obtained from eating butter, low calorie butter does exist and can be a good substituted too.
