What Is In California Rolls?

If you have ever stepped foot in a sushi bar or had a taste of Japanese cuisine, you are sure to have come across sushi rolls. One popular type of roll is the California roll, best known as being an alternative to raw-fish sushi. It is a good option for those who are squeamish about eating raw fish, or just haven’t acquired the taste for it. California rolls are considered to be an “Americanized” version of sushi. It is sure to contain avocado, cucumber, and rice. Occasionally it will also include crab meat. Like most sushi, the avocado, cucumber and crab meat will be wrapped around in the rice to make a roll, and then cut into 6 or 8 pieces.

Are California Rolls Healthy?

A typical California roll contains 255 calories, most of which come from the 38 grams of carbohydrates it contains. There are also 7 grams of fat, and 6 grams of fiber, and 9 grams of protein. Considering that most people don’t just have one roll of sushi, the calories will add up, so make sure to eat in moderation! In general, most of the calories come from the rice, and then from the avocado. Cucumbers provide a miniscule amount of nutrition here.
