Are Chickpeas Good For You?
You may often encounter chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, in dishes or sides such as salads, falafel, or hummus. There are several health benefits of chickpeas that make them worth including in meals more often. They are filled with fiber and protein: a half-cup serving provides 6 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein! They are also a good source of nutrients such as manganese and folate, and, like many other beans, are good for a healthy heart. One of the more important chickpeas health facts is that they naturally don’t contain any sodium, but be careful when buying canned chickpeas. They do contain sodium, and, depending on what you are using the peas for, you may want to rinse them off before use!
How to Cook Chickpeas
Although popular in salads, soups, and the more popular falafel and hummus, which are all great ways to enjoy chickpeas, many often overlook a much simpler way to enjoy chickpeas health benefits and taste: as a simple snack. This bean is very easy to cook for munching on throughout the day (but in controlled portions!). Simply roast them, either dry or with some oil, and pack them to go. Without oil will save you some fat and calories, and the only other ingredient you may want is seasoning for some added flavor!
