Are Chips Bad For You?
There are dozens of different chips available on the market: salted potato chips, baked chips, vegetable chips, chips with different flavors and shapes. In general, chips health benefits depend on the type that you are consuming. Potato chips, especially flavored versions like Barbeque or Cheddar Cheese, are often high in sodium and fat, making them a poor choice for snacks. Vegetable versions, such as carrot chips or kale chips, are healthier and just as delicious as the more popular kinds. In moderation, different types of chips can be included in your diet, but try to opt for the healthier kinds!
Healthy Alternatives to Chips
If you do choose to include chips in your diet in moderation, low calorie chips are a great option. These include vegetable chips, plain flavored varieties, and baked chips, which contain less fat. It is also very easy to make your own. You can use anything from potatoes, including sweet potatoes, to vegetables such as carrots and butternut squash, or greens such as kale. Simply coat them in some oil and bake them in the oven until crispy. It is easy to do and a much healthier option when craving that crunchy snack.
