There are calories in coffee? Oh no....
I haven't been counting the coffee calories/tea calories (I drink black coffee) because for whatever silly reason, it never crossed my mind that there are calories in them.
Does everyone else log these calories?
I just found this out, because I was searching the database for Dunkin Donuts hash browns (I had one piece this morning from my dad's serving) and I ordered a large coconut black coffee. I didn't find the nutritional info for the hash browns here (I had to manually enter it from another site) but I did find the coconut coffee on the list - 20 calories for 10oz. Geez.... if I drank 5 cups of coffee a day (like I sometimes do) that is 100 calories.
Maybe I need to sleep more and cut back on my coffee intake. Sigh. Sorry for the rant... just surprised by the calories.
I never log my drink calories. I don't know why I just don't think its necessary. But I usually drink like 3 cups of coffee over the weekend but for the week I just drink water and gatorade. I never count it though, the whole idea of putting liquid calories in my meter never really crossed my mind
As much as I agree that more sleep and less coffee is the best answer, I think drinking coffee is a better alternative than reaching for a chemical packed energy bar or energy drink. Coffee is fine in moderation and low on calories. :)

You may want to log your gatorade! You would be surprised at the difference it may make if you log it...because when I started loggin my liquids (milk, gatorade, energy drinks, etc.) But again, it's your decision.
I log mine because I use creamer. Can't drink coffee black. I say 20 calories because there is 10 calories in a teaspoon. If you just put it in black it just lists it and doesn't add calories. It just prints that you had it.
lol I was just thinking about logging my coffee, since I drink at least 4 cups, sometimes 6, 8, it depends. But I won't waste my time. I don't log drinks that have no calories (like coke 0, tea, water) or very low cal like coffee since I don't put sugar nor milk or cream.
Black coffee has 5 calories in 6 oz I think. It has calories but too few to matter unless you drink a lot if you are drinking it black. I put cream and sugar in my coffee so I log it.
Thanks everyone! I guess the 20 calories from the D&D coffee is the syrup they put in to flavor it like coconut. If you ask me - it surely didn't taste like coconut at all - though the smell of coconut was present!
I used to drink tea all the time - I love it! But now I am also hooked on coffee- I think on the average day I have 3 cups of tea and maybe 2 cups of coffee. But I will say, it does keep me energized and my munchies at rest.
Black coffee DOES contain calories, but it's very minimal. The calories are only from the slight amount of oil that comes form the beans. a cup of coffee, black, might have 5 calories, give or take a few. For that reason I don't log "coffee" but I do log what I put in it, because that's something else in itself. There is this vanilla powder I use, it's 180 calories for a scoop. Or sometimes I use Coffee Mates sugar free french vanilla. When I use thats I allow myself 2 cups of coffee because it's 15 calories a tablespoon and I will put 5 tablespoons in each cup, so that totals 150 calories for two cups of coffee, obviously better then the one cup with the powder stuff I like, but the powder stuff is definitely way better!....I wouldn't worry about logging just a black cup of coffee, but if you have coffee with any type of flavoring in it, you have to log the flavoring, or the "flavored coffee's" you get from coffee places...
funkymunky- how thin are you and how many calories do you stay under a day? You look great!
Did you all know that coffee is rich in antioxidants?

It's all that icky stuff we put in it that makes it not so good.
But the good news is that even decaf coffee has the antioxidants.
Plain ordinary black coffee has no calories worth noting... you only need to worry about it if you add sugar and/or a ton of creamer and/or have those flavoured coffees... The calories in your 'coconut' coffee would be the ones in the flavouring syrup they added to it to make it coconut flavoured.
I made myself a recipe for the coffee that I have at home (200ml black coffee + 50ml low-fat milk), and that's what I log. It comes to 26cals, which is lower than using creamer and also gives me a bit of calcium (also, I'm suspicious of that modified corn stuff they put in the creamer). For flavouring I add a bit of cinnamon to the pot, or a few drops of almond or caramel essence - it gives the flavour without the calories of sweetened syrup.
Oo, that sounds delicious. I have never thought of trying cinnamon in my coffee... definitely going to give that a try!
The calories in coffee are insignificant so I don't log them. I do take the sugar and creamer into account, though.
