Calories per day, considering walking

Quote  |  Reply

Wasn't sure what to name this topic!

Anyways, I am 5'7 and about 99-100 pounds most mornings so I am obviously looking to gain weight! I was about 115 pounds all through high school and the first few years of university, but last year I gained 10 pounds. I sort of went exercise crazy (hence why I am hovering around 100) and need to get back to 115 at least! I have completely stopped working out, but have calculated that I walk about 8-10 kilometres per day! (To school, then home, plus running errands)

How many calories should I be consuming each day (approx) to gain this weight back gradually? I don't want to see the scale jump within a week or two because I will get scared and go back to my cardio craze!

Please keep in mind that I am extremely inexperienced with calorie counting. I tend to make the same meals day in and out but I wouldn't be able to tell you whether those meals are approx 300 calories or 1000! And I'm not about to get out the measuring cup and measure my cereals, butter, ketchup, etc.

Thanks to anyone who can give me some weight gain calorie intake feedback!!

Try looking at some of the posts of weight gainers "What did you eat today?"

Fcous on good fats,a vocadoes, hummu, nut butters, nuts, seeds. Complaex carbs, good cereals, dense breads, treats (ice cream?), cheese, maybe a protein shake or homemade smoothie with yoghurt fruit and juice?

You dont need to count calories strictly, just be aware of high cal foods that are your option to have or add to your food. Its quite easy once u get a hang of it. Important thing too is three meals and three snacks a day consistently.

Just in case you weren't aware, 125lbs, your weight before you dropped the pounds is a perfectly healthy weight... actually, it's even on the low side of healthy (BMI 19.6, healthy is usually considered 20 - 25.)  So you'd be conisdered in optimum health aaanywhere from 128 to 160.  Just sayin :]

I know!

I guess I should modify my questions..

How many calories am I burning by walking like 2 hours everyday? Not all at once of course..

It's hard to give an exact number, it depends on how fast you're walking and a bunch of other factors, but I'd say about 300.
