How many calories should i be consuming?

Quote  |  Reply

I am a 16 year old girl, 5'1 and weigh 129 pounds.  I currently eat 1200 calories a day and plan on adding 100 to 200 more calories to my meal plan, eventually.  My activeness varies, some days i'll work out until exhaustion and others i'll take it easy.

Ah and would anyone mind telling me if i'm overweight for my height? C:

According to the BMI calulator you are very mildly overweight.  Your BMI is at 24.4, a "normal" BMI is between 17 and 24.  Honestly, if you're comfortable where you are, you shouldn't have any problem.  Also, you should probably be eating somewhere between 1600-1800 cal per day if you want to maintain.

I'm no expert, but this much I've learned from the forums: at 16, you're way under eating.. teens need a minimum of 1500 cals/day.. and then when you also factor in your activity level, you need to eat more!

No, you're not overweight. CC's tools aren't intended for teens. There is a link specifically for kids/teens so I plugged your stats into it:

http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html

These are the results: A 61-inch tall, 129-pound, 16-year-old girl has a body mass index (BMI) of 24.4, which is at the 84th percentile for age. This suggests that this girl is at a healthy weight. A healthy weight range for this particular girl would be from about 95 pounds to 130 pounds.

If you were totally inactive your daily calorie intake would be 1,700 so you are eating far below what your body needs. Eat more! Fresh, wholesome, healthy foods :)

Good luck.

Why do you eat 1200 a day?

I don't really know I just feel comfortable when only eating 1200 calories.  Besides i'm not a huge food lover anymore, eating a lot annoys me.  :C

Why dont you just eat normally?

Starving (1500 is the bare minimum for anyone under 21), working out to exhaustion and finding eating 'annoying' are not healthy ways to control your weight & could be symptomatic of disordered eating.  So by posting this message you're infringing CC's message board rules (see below)
