Is Creamer Healthy?

Creamer is available in various flavors: vanilla, hazelnut, and caramel, just to name a few. Whether in liquid or powder form, this non-dairy product is meant to give plain black coffee a kick of flavor. Although low calorie creamer varieties are available, the typical varieties provide about 40-90 calories per 2 tablespoons. A look at what it contains also reveals if is creamer bad for you. Although many companies claim that their product contains no trans fat, many do have trace amounts present. In addition, these products are full of preservatives and unnatural ingredients. For a more natural addition to your coffee, consider one of the alternatives below.

Alternatives to Creamer In Your Coffee

Although the plus side of creamer is that it is non-dairy, for those of us who can tolerate dairy can turn to milk as an alternative for flavor. Adding a tablespoon or two of skim milk to a cup of Joe provides less calories than creamer does, and is a great way to avoid all those preservatives. Another option is soy milk or other type of milk like almond milk. These already have a different flavor that will transfer over to your coffee. Of course, drinking coffee black is always an option too!
