Calories: Eat to Burn Ratio

Quote  |  Reply

Here is my question:

On a typical day I burn approximately 3000 calories with my workout and BMR

I eat about 1500 to 1600 calories.

Is this the right ratio?

Should I be eating more?

Burning more?

You could probably stand to eat a little more, but I think you're probably ok. I would say to do that for now, and if you eat a little more, don't worry about it. If your weight loss starts to slow or stall, up your cals a little bit because itprobably means your deficit is too high. If you notice you're feeling sluggish or don't have the energy for your workouts, up the cals or readjust what/when you're eating. Sounds like you're probalby ok though.

I think your deficit is too high.  More than 1000 is usually not healthy unless you are very overweight, and under a doctor/nutritionist care.  The problem is that your body can only metabolize a small percentage of your fat per day.  If you are losing more rapidly than that, then you are losing muscle.

Geeze, you really need to be eating much more than that!!!  If you typically burn 3000/day to lose weight you should only deprive yourself of 500 a day.  I would try that for a while and see how that goes...oh and make sure you are eating a lot of protein!!!

how much cardio do you do too?  3000 sounds like a lot of calories burned.  You really  only need 3-4 sessions/week at 30 mins each session. Weight loss is all about your diet.

When you have my schedule 3000 isn't alot.. LOL

I usually use the elliptical until is says 800 to 850 calories burned 5 to 6 days a week it is my stress reliver since I not only take care of my house hold but also my elderly grandmothers, I can climb on the elliptical crank up the Ipod and just have my time with no interuptions without it I would go crazy!!!

I do make sure that I get my protein in I have a whey protein shake before and after each work out. along with Chicken or Fish with each meal and red meat twice a week.

I totally understand you need need that stress reliever!!!  If you need to do that much cardio, then just bumped up those calories!!!  Also, whey is great to have before and after a workout, just don't do it any other time of the day!!

So, with that said, just gradually up your cals each week...and give it time!  Hope this helps!
