Too Many Calories to Eat at the End of the Day???
Every now and again I find myself very short on calories at the end of the day. For example.. it's 8 pm right now and I've only eaten 950 cals, and my goal is between 1500-1700. I realize this is poor planning on my part, but now I dont know what to do! Should I just have a lower calorie day, or should I try to shove a 600 calorie SOMETHING in my mouth.. regardless of nutritional value? I'm so confused.....
I wish I knew. I am at 1027 of 1667 and wondering the same thing...
I know right!!! :) Part of me is feeling like it's a freebie candy bar!!! Wahoo! But then I tell myself that despite my calorie shortage, it still isn't smart to shove in a bucket full of peanut butter chocolate ice cream...umm... But no! I wont do it. But then what?
Get four celery sticks and put a tblsp of peanut butter on each one, then eat a banana. That is around 550 calories and not too shabby for your health either. :P
All I know for sure is that too few calories makes my body hold onto the food I eat. I've just got to up my calories for lunch.
If it doesn't happen very often, and you don't feel like eating something healthy, then I would just have a lower calorie day. I'll usually make up for it the next day because I'll be a little hungrier, and it ends up balancing out.
I have the same problem... I am glad to see other people do the same thing.
Well.. a PB and banana sandwich was finally kinda sounding good so I tromped into the kitchen to discover......OUT OF PB!! how could I, as a faithful dieter for 6 weeks now, do that to myself???Turns out I guess I'm kinda low on groceries all around... So, ended up being 36 wheat thins (260 cal) 2 laughing cows (100 cal) Salsa (10 cals) and a weight watcher giant cookies and cream ice cream bar (140 cal) just to satisfy that "shove something naughty in" craving.
So, prob not the best I could have done, but certainly not the worst I suppose. Thanks for all the help guys. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with this every once in a while.
P.S. how come some days this is the prob, and others your STARVING, feel like you havent eaten hardly anything, and your practically over your calories? What cruel bodies we have....
Roobe18- Glad to find that I'm not the only one having that problem! Makes me realize I do really need to plan better.
Bsnipes- Good idea, I think I just might up my calories for lunch as well that way I don't have to eat so much at dinner when I accidentally undereat.
Kinda funny to me that I would have problems getting to my calorie needs... *shakes head* Good luck planning your meals and reaching your calorie needs!
I have a tendency to have the same problem 2-3 times a week by around 200 calories, mainly cause I just dont feel like eating much anymore!!! My solution is to drink my calories at night on the days I am short...... I keep slim fast shakes, and juices on hand for those occassions.... I am not sure if that is wise to do, but seems to be working alright I guess.
That's a good idea! I hadn't thought of that. Maybe some milk with a little choc. syrup would be a tasty solution.
that would be a double winner I think... you could get your calories PLUS get a little sweet treat!!!

That's my go-to when I'm short on calories and not hungry.
I have this problem too sometimes, especially when I'm watching my calories like a hawk (ironic, you'd think it'd be something that only happens when I'm slacking, but...)
I'm aiming for around 2k a day, but often find myself at 1.5k on a given day. I've found when I don't give myself that 2k over the long run, I plateau... and the faster I went on the way to hitting that plateau, the longer the plateau lasts and the more annoying it is to 'shake' it.
In my experience, forcing myself to eat breakfast, and to eat to my target intake, helps me in the long run... even if in the short haul it feels yucky (breakfast) or is counterintuitive (eating more meaning faster, more 'smooth' weight loss).
I have this problem also but because I eat 100 calorie snack though the day. I find myself not as hungry if I miss my mark. For me I do not worry because it does not happen often and If I find myself in a bind I have a 100 calorie snack to get me back on track.
I do count my calories to make sure I don't over eat, but my rule of thumb is that if you are too hungry you need to eat something. If you aren't hungry you don't.
If your goal is 1500 calories and you only ate 1000 to 1200, but you aren't hungry I wouldn't personally eat. If you find yourself hungry then I would.
Same problem. I usually also just have a low-calorie day and balancing it out the next day. But I'm always happy with a low-cal day as long as I'm not clear down in the 700s or something. As long as I'm close to my 1200, then have like a 1600 the next day, it's all good.

Ok this girl I know was really skinny when she was growing up.. so her mother made her drink 3 glasses of milk before bed. ... Milk perhaps will help you fulfill those extra calories.

If she was skinny doesnt that mean the milk wasn't working?
Hi! that happens to me all the time! but I try to eat more every day now I'm just short a few hundred cal. but I don't eat after 8 p.m and I don't log my food until 9 p.m so I have a big problem right??? I set up my cell phone alarm for every two hours so I can eat at that time so I won't forget but I'm scared of eating to much too!An I'm always short!
I do this too!
But i generally do this on purpose because I tend to eat the most at night rather im hungry or not. I go out a lot as well, so i save calories for going out! :)
