How many calories do you eat to lose weight healthily?
As simple as that :)
What are your stats, too?
EDIT: What's working for you to get you to lose one pound per week? 1800? 1200? 1500?
Hola~! My calories depend on how much activity I got for that day:
Under an hour: 1800 cals.
An hour: 2000-2200 cals
Over an hour: 2500 cals
I'm 15, 65 inches, and I weigh 145. :) Just curious: why're you askin'?
how does that work for you? We have about the same stats, give or take ten pounds
Kaybug: So, you're losing weight on that many calories?? We have the same stats (almost exactly, except I'm around 147...but that really doesn't matter). I just started a diet again, and after coming out of starvation mode within the past couple of months I'm just curious as to how many calories teens normally eat to lose weight :) That's all.
This is a dangerous thread. Just so you know. Many girls in this forum will be starving themselves. (And if they post such I'll be here to catch them.)
If you want to work out your BMR and are under 21, CC's tools are inaccurate and you should use this calculator to work out your BMR: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html as you are still growing. Yes, even in the later years - there's more going on inside of you that you simply can't see.
A female under 21 needs 1500 calories per day bare minimum, sedentary, and a guy under 21 1800 per day minimum, sedentary. As a reminder.
If you are over 21, I would still use that calculator and tweak it slightly if you see no improvements or loss. Just because you turn 21 doesn't mean your metabolism suddenly slows like crazy! >_> The CC burn calculator is here: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/calories-bur ned.php
Hypothetical situation, as I age myself a few years: let's pretend I am perfectly healthy, just turned 21, am 6'1, and weigh 145lbs. (I don't know how much I weigh right now.)
Previously, the first calculator for under 21's told me I need 1940 calories sedentary. The second, CC's calculator, tells me I need 1800. The sensible thing for me to do would be to take 1900 as my resting burn.
I have no idea if that made sense, but I hope it does. >_>
I know what you mean lalabanana. I've been there, and that's why I'm curious as to how many calories is consumed for healthy teen weightloss.
So, I've changed the title, and added something in the body of the post. I hope that's enough, for I really am wanting to know this.
I'm 15, 5'5.5", and about 147lbs. I'm eating about 1200-1500 calories (I'm trying not to stick to a certain amount, just whatever works out for that day), and I'm currently not exercising. However, I will be adding exercise within the next two months or so. My goal weight is around 115-120lbs (I'll be at around a 19-20 BMI, so I'll still be healthy), and I really don't care how long it takes to get there, however a year or so is ideal.
Thank you all for replying, though :)
You really need to eat more. Like I said: a female under 21 needs 1500 calories per day bare minimum, sedentary. And that means consistently, no dipping under it. According to that calculator for teens I linked you you should be eating 1930 calories a day sedentary to maintain, so a safe number to lose on if you choose to remain sedentary would be 1500-1700. Especially if you're willing to take a year or so to get there, 1700 should give you a loss of 0.5lbs a week.
Personally, though, I'd suggest eating 1700 and taking a half hour walk a day if you get the time. But really, you need at least 1500!
I do exercise, but not very intensely. Just daily calisthenics and running 1 mile. I eat about 1600-1800, since I can't go much lower or higher in a good mindset. Honestly though, it's easier for me to regulate what I eat rather than how much. If I stick to low glycemic, high protein foods and keep away from processed sugars, I'm a lot more clear headed and my appetite is much easier to control. My stats are pretty close to yours, too; 140, 5'5".
At my fastest I was losing about 2 lbs. a week on South Beach (if you don't count the water weight) which I highly recommend. It says not to count, but I did for a little while just for the heck of it, and I was eating around 1400 a day on average and felt completely satiated. Just don't cheat too much, or start out on Phase 2 and you should be able to stick to it better than I did.![]()
Alrighty. So, I should start eating a bit more. I suppose I can do that :) I'll either start working out again in January or February, and when I do I do both weight lifting and cardio for an hour all together. When I start eating more without exercise I'll probably go to around 1600. But, with exercise, would I be eating too little and/or would my weight loss stop??
Sorry, this post has turned into something totally different. But, since you brought it up, I'm curious.
Thank you for offering advice, though. I really do appreciate it.
Yes, you'd want to be eating more when you begin working out again. Something closer to 1900 calories. And you're quite welcome.
Okay :) I'm sure I can do that. Thank you for the advice, again :D
Welcome, and any time!
