How many calories should I be eating?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi! This is kind of a silly question but I was wondering how many calories I should be eating a day to maintain my weight. I am 5'7", female, 118 lbs, 20 years old. I run 4-6 miles six days a week and do strength training 3 times a week. I have a fairly active lifestyle and I work as a hostess so I am on my feet most of the day.  I have been eating around 1800 calories a day but still seem to keep losing weight. Any advice?

if you're still losing, then eat more... makes sense doesn't it?

up to 2000cal, if you're still losing up it another 100cal... etc. until you do maintain.

From the Expedinture Calculator on CC  Classic, I input your stats as given:

Moderate Activity

  • At work - you are very active much of the day
  • At home - you rarely sit and do heavy housework or gardening
  • Exercise - you exercise several times a week and push yourself pretty hard
Daily Calories Burned

You burn 2100 calories during a typical day. Remember that this estimate is based on your body weight, height, age, gender, and your average level of activity.

You can use this information to help you figure out how many calories you should be consuming to maintain your weight. On active days, you'll need more calories, so it's okay to eat a little more than you would on an average day. But on more sedentary days, you may want to reduce your calorie intake. If you want to lose weight, try to stay below your calorie needs or increase your activity level. However, make sure you are eating nutritious meals and not restricting your calories too much - eating too little or losing weight rapidly can be unhealthy and dangerous.   This is a guide.  Use it as a guide to work up to.  If you gain w/in a month's time, back off 100 calories.  Same holds true if you are still losing ... bump it up 100 calories at a time.

Thanks! This helps a lot:)
