Calories in eggs-are they worth it?
I read the label and saw each egg has 70 cal's in it. I actually scrambled 5 eggs with the intent to make two meals out of them and after they were done, I realized that I could have eaten all of them in one sitting, plus with no bacon, bread, and cheese would have been 350 cals. Does anyone think eggs aren't worth the cal's?
I think eggs are one of the most worthwhile source of 70 calories from a satisfaction and nutrition standpoint. I love them!
eggs are very good for you. The idea that they are not is a hold over from early nutrition studies of the 1970's.
One of the best and very well referenced descriptions of the properties of whole eggs and their relation to health is here

enjoy your eggs!
I love eggs, but prefer a 1 whole egg + 1 egg white ratio. I especially like this for over-easy eggs (my favorite kind!). I just like the ratio of yolk/white better - the runny yolk is my favorite part, but I want the right amount of runny yolk to spread over the white :)
A nice breakfast is two whole eggs + two egg whites (total of about ~200 calories, depending on the size of the eggs), plus whatever you want on the side - toast, bacon, yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, etc. I think eggs and oatmeal is pretty much the most filling breakfast ever, and it's nicely balanced too - protein, fat, carbohydrates.
If you are really worried about it, start using appletwo's idea. For scrambled or omelet style eggs I see no reason to ever use anything but egg beaters + 1 whole egg. The whites are only about 15 calories, but there is a lot of important stuff in yolk so dont discount it.
I love eggs and think they're SO worth it! Especially if you buy omega-3 enriched ones!! I love eating two poached eggs with jarred tuna in olive oil! Delicious!
Oh and to make it a more rounded meal you can add some steamed green beans & olives & artichoke hearts!
They are worth it, and I love eggs. That being said a whole meal made from 5 eggs is just not all that balanced. Try adding some fruits or veggies, a toast, etc. When I am lazy, short on time, I just hard boil a couple cut them in to pieces, sprinkle with some Maggi and wrap them in a a burrito wrap. Makes for a fast/light breakfast.

I think eggs are lovely! Great source of protein - just have to watch the fat. Not the best kind of fat for you. Eat them in moderation, or eliminate the yolks.
I AGREE WITH EVERYONE! I EAT 2-3 HARDBOILED EGGS FOR BREAKFAST EVERY MORNING WITH SOME CARBS, IT KEEPS ME GOING ALL MORNING! EGGS YUM YUM EAT EM UP!
Eggs are a great source of protein. 5 is a bit much - could you really eat that much? Try 2-3 at a time. I try to keep a few hardboiled to snack on, but do eat 2 every Sunday morning when hubby cooks breakfast. We're lucky to have fresh brown ones - YUM.
I love eggs. It's not uncommon for me to eat 2-3 with breakfast 3-5 days a week. :D
I don't see if anyone suggested this or not, but have you tried Egg Beaters? They're actually quite good and only 30 cals a serving... I love regular eggs too, but only with the yolk mixed in. Egg whites make me gag so this was a good compromise.

Agreed!
I agree that 5 eggs is a lot for one sitting. Try having them not scrambled. Scrambling eggs seems to make them "smaller"...like getting less bang for your buck. Have them fried or poached or boiled. Then 2 large eggs will be enough. I like to slice up 1 or 2 hard boiled eggs on toast with salt and pepper, a slice of tomato, mustard or mayo and make a tasty sandwich.
Some ideas. I made this yesterday for lunch today.
Ingredients:
- 2 large eggs
- 1 chicken sausage (cooked)
- 1/2 cup of cut up mushrooms
- 1 tsp garam masala (or to taste)
- 1 tsp crushed black pepper
- 1 tsp soy sauce (or to taste)
- 1 LaTortilla Factory tortilla
Directions:
Sautay the mushrooms in a bit of oil, I use napkin on hot skillet method, and sprinkle of salt. Add a splash of chicken broth if they start to burn. Beat two eggs gently with fork and add pepper, garam masala, and soy sauce. Poor in to small skillet and cook like regular omelette, add in mushrooms and shredded cooked chicken sausage. Might want to flip it if top side is still not cooked. Although next time I might bake it like a frittata. Wrap in a tortilla, and enjoy. :)

Well if your going for scrambled eggs why not give egg beaters a try? They taste NO different for regular eggs and they are 30 calories per 1/4 cup. (1/4 cup = 1 egg) The only bad thing is that is can get exspensive buying them all the time. Hope this helps.
