I was wondering if 1800 calories a day was enough to maintain a healthy body? I am 5'3 and am now about 112 lbs. I walk on the treadmill for an hour 5 days a week, and walk for an hour everyday of the week. Otherwise I'm usually sitting at meetings, studying, etc.
I ask because I used to have an eating disorder (used to weigh less than a 100 lbs.) When it finally hit me that I had a problem I spent weeks convincing+ forcing myself to eat more, and eventually did.
I just watched the KAren Carpenter story and it terrifies me to know that her heart just gave out like that.
Any Feedback is welcome!
Maybe. See what happens at that level. If you start to go down, add 100 calories. Or start at 1900 calories and see if you go up.
Based on your current weight and height. I'd say you are right on track. I don't know how old you are but I entered an age of 25 along with your height and weight and a sedentary lifestyle into the burn meter and it shows 1600 calories as your daily needs. If you add in the calories burned from exercise I'd say 1800 should be just about right for you to maintain a healthy weight.
Good luck!
I'm 5'2" and 120. I typically work out 5 days a week and 1800 is the perfect amount for me to maintain my weight. If I eat less I lose weight, and if I regularly eat 2000, I gain weight.
Good for you, deciding to be healthy. Remember, we eat to fuel our bodies and our activity. What is perfect for you now, will change as you age and as you change your activities. Food is your body's friend. Learn to enjoy it and use it to nurture your health. The more you learn to eat to "care for your body/health" the easier the habit will be.
You are right on track. Great job making a change in your life!
