How many calories do you think this has?
So I'm going out for Easter brunch tomorrow, and the place has their menu online but no nutritional information. This is what I'm considering getting:
Mini Veggie Omelette - A fluffy two egg omelette filled with diced tomatoes, green peppers, onions, brocolli, and combo cheese.
The menu also says that omelettes are prepared with whipped egg whites and served with potatoes and an english muffin (although I probably won't eat the potatoes or the muffin).
Thanks for your help!! :)
Well, let's work this out.
2 large eggs- 140 calories
Oil/ butter for the pan- (generous) 125 calories
Tomatoes, Onions and Broccoli- 45 calories (Just a tiny bit stuffed in the omelette, right?)
Cheese- (generous 2 oz)-220
English Muffin- 150 calories (I suggest eating it, even just half?)
140+ 125+ 45+ 220+ 150= 680 calories, and each amount given was for a generous amount. You could rework the numbers if it's not the least bit oiley from a good slab of butter/ oil, or if there's less cheese. Enjoy your brunch!
You know, you can always ask your server for substitutions - Just as long as you ask nicely, your server/the chef will be happy to modify your order however you please... If I were you I would omit the cheese... because if VRON's calculations are correct, that's 220 unneeded calories! If you must have the cheese though, ask for shave cheese on the side so you can put as much as you think you will need on top! You should also ask for EXTRA vegetables and make sure this omelet is NOT cooked in butter!

Omitting the cheese and uppin' the veggies in an excellent suggestion. You knock out some sodium and saturated fat this way as well.
Thanks so much guys for the great suggestions!!! I just have one question. The menu says that the omelette is prepared with whipped egg whites, so do you think that means the egg white is the only part of the egg that they use? Wouldn't that decrease the calories for the eggs?
I would imagine they add the yolk back in- they just use whipped whites to make it fluffier. This makes up for 2 whole eggs. However, if the omelette shows up on your plate and it's pure white, then subtract 140 from the total for the whole eggs, and add 35 for just 2 egg whites.
But most importantly enjoy the brunch, it shouldn't be entirely about what you eat, but why your eating. Not even in the religious since, but your going out for brunch, with your family and its important to enjoy yourself.
But if your going to try and change the menu options, perhaps opting to get a bowl of fresh fruit instead of the potatos, fruit always complements a breakfast meal nicely and fruit is relatively low cal. On average a cup of mixed fruit has about 140-160cals.
Yay, brunch was great! The omelette was just whites, and not too oily, and I got it without cheese! And I got fruit instead of potatoes!! :)
Awesome, good for you. I am glad you enjoyed the Easter brunch.
-sounds absolutely delicious! Needless to say, I'm jealous ; )
