3000 calories?!!?!
Hey guys,
I was just talking to a dietitian over the telephone (eatrightontario.ca - which lets my community ask nutrition-related questions and receive feedback from a Registered Dietitian).
I asked about how many calories I should be taking in a day and for MAINTENANCE, I was told I need 3000 calories. Tell me that woman was nuts!!
At 105 lbs, I simply don't see how I can fit 3000 calories in my diet without puking everywhere.
How much exercise do you do? If you are training for a marathon or do a lot of kick-boxing and palaties, or are heavily into weight-lifting or play league basketball and volleyball and softball, etc., you could take in 3000 calories and still maintain.
If you are a sedentary person, 3000 calories seems high to me. When I was in a very good 6 week program of maintaining, I was exercising around 2 to 2 and 1/2 hours a day (not heavy) and was taking in 2600-2800 calories. I am a 170 pound old dude, though.
I do about an hour of vigorous activity a day, every day. I'd say 15 minutes of running at 10 mph, and 45 minutes of weights (some days I skip weights and just run for an hour). But duuuude I'm only 105 lbs and 5'5, and 3000 is for maintenance not weight gain.
if she's not lying, does that mean I can fit a funnel cake a day in my diet since I'm only at 2200/day ![]()
Maybe, and if you do...eat a 2nd one for me! LOL
Well, you may have one heck of a high metabolism rate. I think if you would go to any of the BMR, BRI, RMR site calculators, none of them would give you 3000 as what your maintenance calorie intake should be. Just Google to find some or I can post some that I use.
I am not saying that she is lying. I just think in general for most people your size, 3000 would be more than normal.
According to phord.com/cc depending if you're 'very active' or 'extra active' you should be eating between 2450 and 2670 so I guess it's close. Are you active during the day too when you're not working out?
im a guy and i eat to maintain 3,000, and my weight is 154, while my height is 6'2,5, i still find 3000 not enough even though most days i go over 3,000 with like 3,200~ or so. i find it not enough because last months from increasing from ~2000 to ~3000 after some bloating i have lost 11 pounds.. in fact at first i thought 3000 is really much, but when you get some nuts every day its so easy to reach that 3,000, though of course i like to eat some chocolate every day to help myself reach 3000 lol
