LOCKED TOPIC

how many calories?

Right now i'm 120 lbs and 5'4 in. i recently lost 50 lbs (yay) and i did it through good dieting. but now everyone around me is saying that i'm slim enough and should stop before i get sick, they think i'm not eating enough, but problem is i think everything i eat is too much. i average around 700 to 800 calories a day and i do karate 3 times a week. i feel like i eat pleanty, but nobody seems to agree. and i know the calorie count sounds low but i get so stressed out if i make it above 1000 a day. i feel like i will get heavy if i suddenly go back to eating that much because of the lowness of my caloric intake. that and i've missed my period 3 months in a row now, and that can't be good, but i just would rather NOT eat than gain weight.

does anyone have any suggestions of a very slow calorie intake plan that will gradually increase my calories so i can return to a normal eating regimine and NOT gain weight. seriously,, if i gain any of the weight i tried so hard to loose back i might just concider self induced vomiting. i would get so panicked and desperate if that happened.

please help?

by loose I think you mean lose.

You have missed three periods in a row because your body is out of balance.  You should be eating at least 1200 calories a day.  I am 5'4" and weight 130 pounds.  My body requires 1250 calories a day if I do nothing but lay in bed all day.  You need to add more claories into your diet to be healthy.  Try eating fruit and nuts.  These are natural foods that will give your body the nutrients it needs to remain healthy and get back into balance.

You have likely developed obsessive issues around food as a result of your starvation diet (600-800 is a starvation diet). So in fact, that's not good dieting, that's dangerous dieting and because of that you may have changed your brain's receptors to trigger a full blown eating disorder.

Your fear of gaining weight is the first sign you are in serious trouble now. Given your current activity level, height, weight etc. you need to take in 2500 a day to maintain your current weight. You need to get to that intake ASAP.

Because you are fearful and stress if you even eat 1000, you need to get professional help now while there is still a chance to turn it around without severe damage. You have not missed your period for unknown reasons -- it has stopped because you are in starvation mode. Bad news.

You cannot turn this around on your own because you have clearly stated that you would rather risk your health and life than gain weight -- you may not know this emotionally at the moment, but hopefully on a logical level you know how sick that sounds.

Go see a doctor, get a therapist and a nutritionist. You are not doing o.k.

I lost my period from not eating enough and too much exercise.  I have not had it since April of this year.  I am currently working with a doctor to get it back.  I have had to cycle Prometrium.  I have had several blood tests and ultrasounds.  Intra-vaginal ultrasounds...  It is NOT FUN.

Eat now.  Go to a doctor.

Its obvious that you have an eating disorder. Get help.
