thats how many calories' worth of sweets and junk food I got today from my parents for Christmas today. I can't believe it. I asked them so many times not to buy my any because I really need to lose weight. I got 5 100g slabs of chocolate (most of them dark so even more calories), a packet of caramello bears, some 200g slabs of milk chocolate, Astros, beef jerky, roasted nuts, humbugs, chocolate bars, gum, suckers, sherbet, Toberlerone etc. I allowed myself an oz of chocolate, and have packed the rest away. I have to give it away or something.
its 2.5 lbs.
anyone else got similar troubles? :)
thousand times over have i clearly stated that I am watching what i am eating and that i want to drop a few more pounds. they are the types that can eat whatever they want without the consequences so they don't really know what temptation feels like. what do they do these past three weeks? literally buy costco sized packs of the most fattening stuff out there. the result? i gained 5 lbs. I worked SO hard to loose weight and i am so... angry that i let myself give in.. but they didn't have to buy those large packs. that's also what makes me angry. and that they still really don't care. more reasons to move out sooner which will make being healthy a whole lot easier.
MODERATION!!!! Just because you got given a ton of sugar that doesn't mean you have to sit down and binge-eat it all today... put it away in the freezer and dole it out to yourself a little at a time. (Freezing it keeps it nice indefinitely, and keeps it out of temptation because it's a little harder to get to...) Dark chocolate is very good for you - it's packed full of anti-oxidants, and if you're a female it's the only surefire cure for PMS. :)
(You can mail me the caramello koalas! I haven't had one of them since I left Australia... they were my favourite candy growing up!)
And I won't feel a tad bit guilty chowin' down on that gorgeous cheesesteak sandwich they have.
Unfortunately though, we're the ones giving away all of the junk food. Fudgy brownies in various tins, a giant plate of sugar cookies, a pumpkin roll (think of a jelly roll with pumpkiny bread and cream cheese filling), and mugs of hot cocoa.

thanks so much, thats a great idea- freezing the chocolate i mean-because then I can be sure i can self-moderate, by defrosting a little at a time. thanks :) i would never have thought of that, because i am a very extreme person by nature, i never see the balanced perspective!

i just woke up and havent left my room yet, but i told them over and over and over "no chocolate or candy" so we'll see...good for you putting it away though!! give it away as soon as you can! its hard, i know, but once its gone you wont be tempted.
its a bit of a catch 22, because where I live, poverty is rife so its not that it would be hard to find someone to give it to, but it also seems sort of injust (in my mind anyway) to give a hungry/homeless person candy.. but I have this friend, one of "those" people (6' tall, about 130lbs, and eats like a machine) so I think i may palm some of it off on her.
I would throw it away, immediately. If you can't give it away immediately, ruin it and put it in the garbage. I'd just eat it frozen if I froze it. And I'd just eat it out of the garbage if I didn't ruin it. Pick out a serving or two, save that if you really want it, and GET RID OF THE REST AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It will sabotage your goals. Even if you don't give in and binge on it, you'll be plagued by the temptation.
Yesterday at a nearby coffee shop, they were giving away pastries. My boyfriend took 2 and ate them with his coffee; they had my favorite type of pastry, so I took that, and put it in a bag. Of course, it was a mistake not to refuse it. I decided I'd give it to a homeless person on the way home, which, of course, is very risky. Every moment I had it with me was added risk! In my mind, I hemmed and hawed about whether to eat it or throw it away, because I wasn't encountering any homeless people.
Luckily, I ran into somebody I know, and I asked her if she wanted it and she said yes. Had I been smart, I wouldn't have taken the pastry at all. Had I been less smart but still smart, I would have discarded it immediately after I got it. Since I was lucky, I was able to get rid of it anyway.
I can often resist goodies. I'm not trying to during Christmas, mind you, but when I'm in healthful eating mode, most goodies really aren't all that tempting. I build treats into my food plan so I don't feel as though I'm depriving myself, and eat them in moderation.
That said, Oreos are not safe to harbor in my house. I know this from bitter, bitter (yet surprisingly tasty) experience!

I really don't think that's that great a suggestion. You can't completely deny yourself of ALL the things that you really enjoy. Moderation is the key. I think you should put it somewhere out of sight, that way you aren't tempted to munch on it when it's around, but when you want a little something sweet, just take one and put the rest away.
Or if you like baking, you can make chocolate chunk cookies and give to your kids, if you have 'em, or to someone you know with kids to take in to school. It's still giving it away, but you have a little fun in the process, and you'll probably feel a little less guilty about eating a chocolate chunk cookie than a few slabs of chocolate.
i over did it over the holiday. i had it all. cookies, cake, wine, fudge, you name it. in moderation of course but exactly what is moderation when it comes to this kind of stuff? well, today i am done! no more sweets for me and do you know what i did with the tons of candy left over? the garbage can. yup. threw it ALL out. every it of it. i packed my lunch today and the lettuce is looking pretty sad indeed. a little brown. there were two heads in there. jeff has been so used to buying it for me and i haven't eaten any for about a week now!
i told him "i am back bring on the veggies and fruit" it was fun while it lasted but it has set me back a few pounds so was it worth it? i'd be lying if i said no.
chuck it in the garbage! you can do it!
People who need help losing weight usually have trouble with moderation; so finding a way to get rid of it is best. Homeless people will take candy...it's food, a source of energy. Besides, it beats damaging it or throwing it in the garbage.

It's okay... they don't have them in America and I miss them! (I live in Florida...) As for the chocolate, I always keep my choccy in the freezer because I like it entirely too much, and if it's put away it helps my self-discipline. Besides, that way it doesn't get melty from the Florida heat! I had a bag of chocolate-coated biscuits in the cupboard and they got too hot, so when I took them out to open they were all stuck together in a big mess...

milfred, not everyone has to GET RID OF IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It will not necessarily sabotage someone's goals. If you cannot handle the temptation, then yes, get rid of it! But not everyone is like that.

Well, sure, it's a little dramatic, but I insist the smartest thing for us to do is get rid of them, because if we don't have them around, we won't binge on them , but if we DO have them around, we MIGHT binge on them. Being overweight, I think we share in common the trait that we have trouble resisting immoderate indulgence when it comes to delicious food.
