1500 calories a day and still gaining!

Quote  |  Reply

Help! I've been eating healthy 1500 calories a day for the last two weeks, and walking/jogging at least every other day. Ive been getting a nutrition score of at least an A or A- everyday, but when I weighed myself this morning it said I had gained 4 lbs!! I am getting very frustrated and I don't know what else to do. I have a 9 month old baby so it's hard for me to dedicate too much time to working out. In case my stats are valid:

Hight: 5' 6"

CW: 155

LW: 125

I have also been making it a point to drink 64 ounces of water a day, so I don't think its water retention. I am open to suggestions from anyone. I am really wanting to drop these last 30 lbs but I seem to be going backwards.Cry

You might be drinking enough water...but are you eating a lot of sodium?  I am about 26 weeks pregnant and my body is totally crazy right now.  I had an 8 pound weight gain over the weekend...and I know I drank lots of water.  But I also ate a lot of sodium.  If I were you I would pay close attention to that.  So far this week 7 of it has came off (thank god!)

Also are those 1500 calories healthy ones?  Try to eat as much fruit and veggies as you possibly can.  This will help a lot!  Plus you will feel better too!

When my daughter was little like yours I use to turn on the radio and dance and dance with her in my arms.  I will tell you what that was one heck of a workout! :) Just an idea.

I am in the same boat. Exercising daily. Eating around 1500 calories, drinking enough water and I gained 3 lbs this week. It doesn't even make sense and it's kind of freaking me out a little bit. I mean it feels like all this hard work and no results. I didn't cheat not even once.

My husband talked some sense into me yesterday though. Although the numbers on the scales are not going down and even going up, he can see my weight loss. He can wrap his arms around me much more than he could before.  I can feel it in my clothes. My pants are beginning to fall down. I can feel the inches are melting away. Also remember, you might be gaining some muscle which will add to the numbers on the scale, but you'll notice a difference in the way your clothes are fitting. Also, if it's your time of the month or if you are not very regular (number 2) that could also effect the numbers.

I am going to take my measurements and do that once every 2 weeks or so in addition to the scale.

Hang in there and you will see results!

Thanks for the advice. I have been eating a lot of fruits and veggies, but I guess I wasn't really watching the sodium like I should be... Yell I will try the dancing thing with my son. It sounds fun and I'm sure he'll have a blast!

Definitely watch the sodium.  You could also try some simple calistenics with him.  It should be funny to watch what he does while mommy does jumping jacks, he can listen to you count as kind of a game and maybe chose a number for him to shout (10 is such a good number) if he's speaking yet.

This is my first post and my first reply... I am new to this site but when I read your post, I knew what you are going through.... I jus today was glancing through the South Beach supercharged book and it said if you are gaining you may want to limit your fruits to one a day..... this is only my second week on my program.... I was using fitday and my first week lost 11 lbs but this week I expect little to no loss... on the biggest loser they say that the second week is a plateau week... hope not.. anyway its just a thought.... good luck..

You're probably gaining muscle weight! :) Peoples don't get frustrated!!!! Throw out the scale if it does nothing for you!!! Make sure it stays a motivation tool and that's all remember you're not loosing weight you're getting healthier!!! and more beautiful!!!! and you already are beautifull!!! and most of all FAT weighs LESS than MUSCLE!!! You're gaining in muscle at the same rate you're loosing fat (I'm assuming you're working out alot) Eventually your muscle will win out and you'll start loosing  and *bam* the scale will show it :)

Summary: Muscle density is 1.06 g/ml and fat density is (about) 0.9
g/ml. Thus, one liter of muscle would weight 1.06 kg and one liter of
fat would weight 0.9 kg. In other words, muscle is about 18% denses
than fat.

Oh... probably slightly unrelated, but as to what one of the members said about dancing with babies, be careful.  My mom did that with me and threw her whole neck out.  She had to have therapy for 10 years before it was better.

And aw.  I feel bad for you.  It's really a pain when that happens.  Keep at it - we all know what you're doing can't be BAD for you, so if you just hang in there things will start to happen.

I ate 1200 calories less than I burned yesterday (I had a moment, I'm not advising this to anyone, I felt awful for doing it, let's not dwell), and this morning I was almost two pounds heavier than I was yesterday morning.

These things just happen. Undecided  I drink loads of water (80 - 120oz a day), keep my sodium in check, eat mainly healthy foods...  I don't know why it happens, but it does.

Give it a while.

As lovely as this is to discuss but I got to ask..are you eating enough fiber? That was a major issue for me for a while!
