Green Tea Health Facts

Green tea health facts have been studied for the past decades to discover the effects of healthy green tea. Many studies show green tea consumption associated with lower risks of cancer, weight loss, and positive effects on the heart. The secret of green tea lies in the fact that it is rich in catechin polyphenols. The main powerful antioxidant is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) that can reduce cancer risk, lower LDL “bad” cholesterol levels, and inhibit formation of harmful blood clots that cause heart attacks and stroke. Green tea also has the ability to prevent tooth decay by killing the bacteria in your mouth that cause plaque. The only downside to healthy green tea are the negative side effects associated with consumption of too much caffeine such as insomnia. However, green tea contains only about 1/3 the amount of caffeine that coffee does.

Green Tea Information

Why all the hype about green tea and not all teas? Black tea, in contrast to green tea is made from fermented tea leaves which results in the powerful EGCG antioxidant converted to other antioxidants that are less effective. New green tea information is emerging that green tea can help dieters. Besides the fact that green tea calories are negligible, some studies have shown that the substances in green tea may promote weight loss by speeding up metabolism and suppressing appetite. Drinking green tea in conjunction with healthy eating and exercise may help support weight loss goals.
