Cappuccino vs Latte
With all the specialty coffee drinks on the marketplace, you may be wondering what the difference is between a cappuccino and a latte. People often confuse the two and wonder is a cappuccino healthier than a latte or vice versa? While both are drinks made with espresso and milk, you may be surprised to know that they can drastically differ in calorie content.
Is Cappuccino Or Latte Healthier?
The nutrient content of lattes vs cappuccinos can vary depending on the type of milk used – whole, 2%, skim, or soy milk – if whipped cream, and any syrups are added for flavoring. When you simply choose an 8 –ounce cappuccino or latte made with skim milk, lattes can have up to 70% more calories.
A cappuccino is made with 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, and 1/3 foamed milk making overall milk content lower than a latte which is espresso and steamed milk only. Avoid whipped cream and flavoring like mocha, vanilla, or caramel to cut down on saturated fat and sugar content of an otherwise healthy coffee drink.
