Calories in International Foods

Hi! I am new to this and was wondering if someone could help me with counting calories in Persian/Iranian foods?

I have the same problem as you.  I am not American and I don't live in the US so I mostly eat things from my country.  What I do is try to break down the foods into ingredients and add them all up.  Some things you won't be able to find, but look and see if you can find a calorie-counting book in your country (Iran) that lists all the foods.

I hope I helped.

Same problem here. I do the same thing. I've found good calorielists in dutch so I've made a lot of tagged items in my account of products I use a lot. A tip when you do that is to enter them for 100 grams and with the "dot" in the per 100 grams spot. that way it is easier to change amounts. I do not use a lot of the same servings in my plan so a 100 gram breakdown is much easier.

A big wish of mine for CC is that they focus on "natural" ingredients a bit more than on branded products. Or at least put the "natural" ingredients on top of the list when you search for something. Now it is hard to find the stuff you are looking for. But maybe I should put that remark in the right part of the forum :-)

Welcome Samira and I hope you'll find your way around here. If not, just let us know and we'll help you.

what sometimes also works is if you look at online shops for foreign products, they often have the nutritional information of the foreign stuff they sell, so you can see the calories that way. eg http://www.asianfoodshop.com.au/sardines-toma to-sauce-p-361.html from australia seems to have the calories for alot of the products they sell. but i have also found the same from other sites.

I tend to just do a google search of the food name calories, and almost always something comes up.

But I completely agree with the coment about natural ingredients, and also why can't I find the calories for "light"salami?
haha the thing with persian food is that every single person makes it TOTALLY different..im persian and i know like 5 different ways to make the same dish either Fattening or super not fattening haha.

most persian dishes are generally really healthy. it all depends how its prepared though, like the saffron rice is good but alot of people put butter into it after its made and stuff.

Here is a good link for the rice. My Iranian friend took me to lunch today to try Persian food. OMG ! It is sooo good I couldn't stop eating it Surprised

Hope this helps a bit.

Persian and Iranian foods are all heavy ghee/oil based type of foods so its kinda hard to make out how much calories exaclty, but I remember them being pretty high in calories, Im from Turkey and we have alot of high calorie foods but then again its all about moderation really. I still enjoy high calorie foods, you just gotta know how much your eating to either lose and enjoy or maintain and enjoy or in my case gain and enjoy! :D hehe. Sorry, this probably didnt answer your question but good luck with everything.
