Calories in Japanese Food

Quote  |  Reply

I don't know if anyone here has ever heard of the "Happy Sumo" japanese restaurant but I just went there and need some help calculating the calories in my entree. I shared these two:

1. A Wasatch sushi roll- raw salmon, yellowtail and cucumbers topped with tabiko(fish eggs) and spicy sumo sauce.

2. Happy Hawaiian chicken entree- tender white chicken breast marinated in pineapple juice, soy sauce and green chiles, then grilled to perfection and served with steamed white rice and stir fried veggies. (didn't eat the rice)

any ideas on the calorie amount of either of these? I've hardly eaten japanese food in my life and am having a tough time calculating how many calories I just consumed. Any help, even just a rough estimate is greatly appreciated!

I'm afraid I can't help you because I always do the easy thing and skip counting calories when I go out. I don't even try to make estimates. I went to an excellent sushi place last night:)

The trouble with estimating calories in sushi, is that it varies so much resturant, to resturant.  Mainly due to portion size, varies so much and then how its prepared.  Generally speaking sushi is relativly low cal (anywhere from 150-400 calories a roll) and usually very nutritious.  However the western civilization has a way of making anything that was once healthy, unhealthy.  Ever heard of a california roll?  Its unheard of in Japan ruin a sushi meal by adding cream cheese...  Don't even get me started on the shrimp tempura...

I really can't give you a good estimate, but the meal seems pretty healthy, except for maybe the sumo sauce.  Assuming that your portions were small to average (4oz chicken breast, cup stir fried veggies, etc.)  I would say it would be on the safe side/high end estimate of 700 for the main entree and 400 for the sushi, likewise the low end 600 for the main entree and as low as 200 for the sushi...

Hope that helps.

Thanks Osainto, that helped a lot! I had really no idea so even an estimated range was helpful, thanks.

no problem, here to help, when I can
