When counting calories, do you count food you eat after midnight the beginning of a new day, or the previous day?
I know it's just a random question that doesn't really matter, but I was just wondering.
Well, you have probably already heard this, but you aren't supposed to eat within 3 hours of bedtime.
However, you may have an odd sleep schedule..
I would likely count my calories as a wake-up to bed-time case. Not a midnight to midnight case.
That's just my personal opinion though.
when you eat your calories is virtually unimportant and in terms of counting it really doesn't matter how you decide to count it as long as you're consistent. i'd prefer sleep cycles since it's more logical than going by a clock. our bodies don't work like a clock so it makes more since to be in accordance with our sleeping rhythm.
hope this helps :)
I am so glad you asked this question and for those that responded. I work a graveyard shift and have been counting my calories from the time I wake up to the time I sleep. Chrissy's advice was wonderful THANKS!
I personally go by a combination of what my "day" is...for example today I woke up at 12:30 am (I went to bed at like 7 pm last night lol) and was hungry around like 3 am so ate what I normally would for breakfast...even though it was still "night" I counted it as today since it was after midnight....I however am consistent about it and did not like go and eat another breakfast when my normal breakfast time of 7 am rolled around...
when you consume the calories doesn't matter, just as long as you, as already said, are consistent is all that matters....
but this is a good question...it is weird b/c I was thinking about this kind of when I was eating my cherrios at 3 am hahaha

Actually, there is no reason for this, unless you eat something that makes it difficult to fall asleep (varies, person to person).
An old tip for losing weight has been to cut out late-night snacking by imposing a time limit on how late you can eat, but if you are counting calories, as long as the snack is in your calorie budget, the time of day when you eat it will not affect your weight loss success.
Because I've got such a lousy sleep pattern (due to health reasons), I tend to count from midnight to midnight as my 'day', so anything consumed after midnight is put on my new day's food allowance.
I have to agree that, in my experience, it hasn't mattered a jot as to whether I've eaten just before sleep or not, although I won't eat anything too heavy before I settle down to sleep, as my stomach gurgling away, as it tries to digest the food tends to keep me awake! ![]()

Hmm, really?
I've read a few different places that metabolism slows while you sleep so your body doesn't digest your food as well which can lead to weight gain.
