How many calories do I need to eat per day to lose weight?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi,

I am 25, 1.73cm tall, weigh 80kgs. Trying to get down to 69 or 70kgs.

Was wondering how many kilojules/calories I should be eating a day so as to not starve my body or make it go into shock and still lose weight?

Is 1,100 calories the right amount?

I just see 1,600 calories per day as too much?

Also:

How should I be eating e.g. food groups? and how much in each food group? Can you please give me a guideline?? E.g. I don't want to leave out a food group or eat too much of another...

 Thanks,

Please email me at: channo_14@yahoo.com or post back to this post...

Much appreciated...

you can use the tools in the tools section to determine your calorie intake. if thats what you did to work out 1600; then thats right

i dont know how much percentages you should be eating, but everything in proportion should be fine. don't overdo the sugary foods and you should be fine.

no 1100 isn't enough. 1200 is the bare minimum and you shouldnt go below that on a regular basis, once every now and then is fine you need to stay at or above 1200 95% of the time. if you ate 1600 then burnt off 400 during the day through exercise that would leave you at 1200 which is a good amount.

Well I typed your details into the calculator thing, and if you are sedentary then you on average burn 2000 kcal a day. Therefore, for you to loose weight at a rate of about 1.5lbs a week, you should be eating 1500kcal a day if you aren't doing any exercise. If you do exercise, just try to work out the kcal expenditure for it, and eat that amount of kcal back. This should prevent your body from going into starvation mode and allow you to loose weight at a healthy rate.
