how many calories do i need to lose weight???

I was just needing to know how many calories should i be eating to lose weight and to maintain? i am 5'5, and i weigh 249.5. i do walk around the house all day long and do housework, but that is just about it. What do i need to do to actually see some weight loss?

The general rule is weight x 10 -500. or about 2000 calories and going down as you loose weight. You can go as slow as prolby 1700 if you dont exercise, add calories if you walk or go to the gym or anything. the key is if your feel hungry eat something. I keep a few bags of salad and celery in the house because they contain almost no calories. Also dont forget water.

Go back to the Home page.  There it will help you figure what YOU need to eat to lose weight.  Also, check out Tools. 

Try entering your stats into the CC calculator and set your activity level to 'light'.  That's not a bad place to start.  If you're 28 I'd estimate that your maintenance calories are around 2600-2700 per day and therefore to lose weight you should be aiming for 1800-1900 average. 

Choose good quality, wholefoods as the bulk of your diet... plenty of fresh vegetables, fruit, grains, meat/fish, that kind of thing...  and keep a few 'not-so-healthy' foods in the mix from time to time as well.   Often it helps a lot to 'eat better' rather than just 'eat less'.  You can eat really well with 1800-1900 cals of wholesome food.

If you want to speed up your weight-loss, do a little more exercise rather than cutting the calories.  As you lose weight, redo the calculations from time to time.... you'll need fewer calories as time goes on.  Best of luck
