95 calories over... no biggy right?

Quote  |  Reply
I mean, I've had an exam today and just wasn't in the mood (or frame of mind for that matter) to total it all up, but decided after dinner that i should well I've eaten 1295 calories and apart from walking to and from school (30 minute round trip) I haven't really done any exercise, but I figured it's okay right? cause I'm pretty sure with all the stressing out my bodies been doing about these exams (my other ones on friday) I'm not gonna loose anything anyway.

Helpful tips?

Any brain foods?

oh Yes,  You will be fine!  My tip would be to relax!  If you studied and put in the time there should be nothing to worry about, just do your best!

Good luck with the exams!

Brain food-- I think banana's are good
you'll be fine! and if you're worried, go for a brisk walk tonight before you go to bed. It will help calm you down from all of the stress, too.
Just to let you know...the whole 1200 number isn't what you should shoot for...it's the BASE amount of calories you SHOULD be eating.

At work, I sit for most of the day because I work in an office and go to the gym 3 times a week. I eat between 1400 & 1500 calories a day and have lost 2 lbs in the last week alone.

First, 1295 calories isn't ever too many calories.  Ever.  For anyone (adult), at any time.

Second, when I was in highschool I had a biology teacher who always gave out peppermints before she'd give us tests.  She said it helped with memory; the peppermint is supposed to help you recall information or something like that.  I don't know if there is any science to back this up but I did pretty well in her class.

I think the whole peppermint thing only works if you study while eating peppermints, then while you're taking the test, you do the same thing. That's how you recall the information. You associate peppermint with the material studied, and then when you have peppermint again, it brings back memories and associations. I don't think just eating a peppermint makes you think more clearly... maybe. I've heard this can be done with any strong smelling thing - oranges, lemons, mint, etc.

but it's good advice, none the less!
No, it's not a big deal at all. You have to eat 3500 calories over your maintenance calories ti gain 1 lb of fat. Let it all balance out over the week. And don't worry about the 1200 calorie minimum too much, IMO it's not enough for most active people.
thanks for all the replies! I ended up zonking out at 8:30, i think my body wanted me to shut up :)

I've tried eating 1500 calories but it just doesn't work very well. I may loose 1/4 of an lb but then i gained 1/2 the next week... Anyway, to be safe i always check it out on the sites tools and it always gives me between 1200/1250 calories. But I'm 5'2 so I figure that's why.

Peppermint sounds good but i've only got 2 1/2 days left and i dont think i have the time for it to actually associate itself in my mind.

Banana will be consumed in my breakfast, and what does everyone think about fish? I've heard alot about it being a brain food but is that fact or fiction?

O bless you honey!!

Don't worry at all about your cal amount whist doing you're exams, you have to just stay on top of everything and focus on your work, a couple of weeks not looking at cals is worth it for your exams, they are waaaay more important!

As for brain food, I've heard omega 3 is good for you, you get it in oily fish, but all I would recommend is eating good, healthy meals, going to bed early and getting pleanty of rest and taking care of yourself!

Good luck for exams (had my last one yesterday, and totally feel you on the stress!) you will do great! AND once they're over, they are OVER!Wheeey!

xxxx

I have to tell ya, you probably should have eaten a little more. Your studying, testing, and that is a boat load on your body and psyche.  So a little more food is just what you need.  Good Luck with everything.
just to let you know...i'm 5'1 and i eat around 1400 calories and have lost 2 lbs in the last week....just because your short doesn't mean you shouldn't eat properly.
ummm, i didn't give it as an excuse, but it does change what you can eat significantly... Anyway, I go by the tools, advice on this site and how i feel in general. 1200 works for me, if you can eat mre and still loose that awesome. I've lost 2.1lbs pretty consistantly since I started my diet, so I figure it suits me.

Anyway I did have a large dinner before my exam (520 calories) and a yummy chocolatey treat (to set myself in a good mood) that was 150 calories, including my breakfast I ate 760ish calories all before 1pm and was pleasantly full for my exam :) I plan on doing the same on Friday :)

I can't wait until it's over! I'm not worrying too much about my cals on friday, but since it's over at 3:30pm I figure I'll just have a smaller dinner.

I'm gonna figure out who invented exams and go back in time and hit them with a fish.

walnuts are my brain food.

i try to have walnuts &dark chocolate before my exams! =)

i agree.
dont feel bad. i go over my calorie amount almost everyday lol
You'll be fine, don't worry about it.Cool
Also remember that the calories amounts aren't 100% exact.  I always just hit "ballpark" within my calorie ranges because I don't truly know exactly how much I burned.  I would consider +/- 95 calories still in range.
