If I went 140 calories over my limit one day, will it impact my weight loss?

I went 140 calories over my goal today and exercised less. I check my weight every 3 days-will this impact me a lot? I am exhausted today and indulged in Boston market. I only exercised 30 minutes instead of my usual at least 60.  I feel sooooo bad and my weight is coming off sooooo slowly and one mistake: BAM. I gain 4 pound sin 1 day. Like thes elast 3 days I exercised everyday and I kept to my calories- I may have gone 50-75 over once and I gained 3.5 pounds. I don't understand how this happens- that cna't just be fluctuating weight.

Should I check my weight everyday? I think I'm going to- if I don't, I'm afraid I might jsut start to eat whatever I want...

Also, what does everyone do when they are EXHAUSTED. The treamdill is horrible these days- I have been doing 30 minutes. Is it okay to switch to biking for 15 minutes for awhile? Besides the treamdill I always do about another 30 minutes- sometimes more- so is it okay to not to the treadmill for 30 but the bike for 15 plus the additional 30 to 45?

Likely your weight gain is temporary water weight due to the extra salt in your "indulgence".  Don't worry about it.  Just keep on going.

Also, double check and make sure you are getting enough calories for your age and activity level.  Sometimes being exhausted means you are eating too little or exercising too hard.

I eat 1300 and usually exercise for about an hour.

I assume that since you are posting in Young Calorie Counters you are a teen, in which case the bare minimum is 1500, with no exercise, regardless of your size.  You might google and find a caloric suggestion for your age - the one here on calorie count is not correct for young people (ie under 21).

An hour of exercise is awesome, but if you aren't properly fueling your body, it is no wonder you felt exhausted.

Don't worry about the weight gain.  A lot of it is probably the sodium, like I said earlier.  Get your calories straightened out and give it a couple of weeks before you step on the scale again.

Good luck!

i ate 8 cupcakes the other day for my birthday and my weights already back down to what it was after 2 days. no, 140 cals will not affect ur weight loss unless you eat it every single day.

It probly is just water weight. I found that if you drink lots of water everyday, your body wont retain it as much when you eat the bad foods. Also, it is good to change up your exercise routine. Your body will eventually get use to the same work out that you do everyday and you will find your body no longer loosing weight. I find that using the different equipment often gives you the best result.

well, if you went 140 cals over your goal, and are still under your burn, it might very slightly decrease your weight loss.  but since 3500 calories = 1 pound you are talking about 1/20 of a pound.  the only way to gain 4 pounds in one day is water weight.

And you seem very tightly wound about this, you might want to relax a little and get some perspective.  otherwise you may be on the road to eating disorders.

Final thought.  young people grow, and this causes weight gain.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! A lot of you said I wasn't eating enough, do you know how much I should eat if I want to lose weight- is 1800 okay?

1800 could lead to a slow and steady weight loss depending on how vigorous your activity level is...i would suspect that you could lose at least 1 pound per week with an intake of 1800 since you are so young and exercise for about an hour daily. try it for a few weeks to see how you do and make adjustments accordingly but give it at least 2-3 weeks before making modifications.

140cals over your target in one day? no.

A significant amount of calories over your reccomended target over a period of many days/weeks? maybe, if they aren't burned off.

I wouldn't worry about it if you're already doing everything right, though.

I try for an hour but sometimes it's only between 30-40 minutes.

Dear underweight 13 year old:

You are supposed to gain weight when you grow up.  Stop dieting.
