Perhaps a stupid question....but

Does 60 minutes of walking equal the same number of calories burned as 30 minutes running at twice the pace?

Thanks

Yes.  The amount of calories burned depends on the distance covered.  It doesn't matter how fast you do it.
Good question. When entered into my activity log I got:

Running (5 mph) for 30 min. burns 209 calories
Walking (2.5 mph) for 60 min. burns 156 calories

In this scenario, I think I would be covering 2.5 miles either way, but running would burn more calories. Too bad I'm not a runner...

wouldnt the ammount of calories burned matter more on how hard your body is working.  You can walk a mile in 20 minutes and burn 100 cals or you could run one in 8 and a half and burn 200. Im curious because ive wondered this as well.
It's usually just by distance traveled. Slight variations occur because of the intensity of running, but generally it's just distance traveled.
The reason people would rather run is because you can burn more, quicker. Walking 10 miles at 3 MPH takes over 3 hours, whereas running 10 miles at 6 MPH Would take only 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Was going to link to another post but realized it was a continuation of this one.  Nevermind!  Sorry, don't know how to delete this.

I don't have an answer but I will tell you what I do...When I am on the treadmill I make sure, whether I am walking or running, to have a minimum of miles, time, and calories burned.

If I run 2 miles it takes me roughly 25 minutes plus 5 minuties of walking and I burn over 200 calories.

If I walk 2 miles it can take me near 50 minutes to burn 200 calories.

If I run really fast it might take me a shorter time to achieve the miles & calories but I make sure to always reach my minutes goal as well.

Whether you walk or run...make sure to do atleast 30 minutes of cardio...running will burn more calories but walking burns more fat.

is it better to burn fat calories or burn carbs?
Do you have a choice, rubester668? If so, how so?
