Calories for salad

Quote  |  Reply

Hey everyone!!

Ever since I started my food log I've wondered one thing if I have a bowl of salad with lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and onions plus a fat free honey dijon dressing, what would be the calories of this? I have estimated 110 does that sound too low too high? Thanks for any help!!! Smile

search the food data base for each item. You can add each part to your food log. I do sometimes with mine - lettuces, tomatoes, carrots, etc etc.

Today I had about 2 cups worth of red leaf and romaine, radishes, 1/2 ounce cheddar cheese half a tomato, and just a tiny bit of light dressing - and it was 27 cal for the veggies and another 56 cal for the cheese and 20ish for the dressing.

Your 110 sounds very much like mine - but I added some cheese.

It depends how big your salad is and how much dressing you are putting on it.  Is this in a cafeteria, or do you have access to the calories in the dressing?  I guess either way, if you really want to know, ask how many calories are in the dressing.  A normal serving size is 2 tablespoons.

waay too high, unless you're using a ton of dressing! log all of them separately to check yourself! lettuce is practically nothing, tomatoes and onions are among the least dense veggies out there, and the dressing is fat free (calories from sugar, but not many) so... my guess would be 70 max, and that's assuming that you use about two tablespoons of 50ish calorie dressing.

Use this to log it

Tossed Vegetable Salad  33 calories in 1 1/2 cups, without dressing.  The rest of the calories depends on the dressing - what kind and how much.

Kraft Fat Free Honey Dijon is 50 calories for 2 tablespoons

I eat tons of salad.  I measure/weigh each item, unless I've eaten it so much I can estimate close.  Add up all the ingredients.  If you eat fast-food salads most are listed on the  caloriecounter.com   web site.
