How many calories in this sandwich?

Quote  |  Reply
Hey everyone, i'm going out to lunch today and most likely going to get the grilled vegetable sandwich. It's plain grilled vegetables - summer squash, zuchinni, broccoli, carrots, onions, and peppers - on quite frankly large sub-type bread. Obviously the vegetables won't have many calories but the bread is my concern. How many calories would you estimate to be in it, if the entire sandwich is a foot long (I don't know actually how long it is, just for estimation purposes)?

Subway's 6" whole wheat bread is 200 cals. Double that and you get 400! I'd double the vegetables and half the bread. Good Luck!

By "plain grilled vegetables" do you mean without any oil or dressings? Because those would add a lot of calories.

I'm guessing 400-700 calories for the bread depending on exactly what kind it is assuming normal sub bread. If it's just plain wheat bread I'd guess the lower end, but if it's any kind of special grain bread or anything, probably higher. I have bought wheat sub bread before that was 1,000 calories for a long loaf (~14 inches or so, so slightly bigger than what you would be getting, but still)

The only problem like skwinkle said is that a lot of times there will be a lot of oil on grilled veggies.
Not sure about the bread, look on here and use your best judgement :)
Thanks everyone. By "plain grilled vegetables" I am saying made with no oil or dressing. I could just tell by the consistency and appearance of them from the last time, especially the broccoli. The bread is the only problem. Oh well, guesstimation will have to do.

I usually estimate about 80 cals per ounce of bread/roll when I don't know the actual calorie content.  A roll about the size of your fist is usually about 2 ounces (depending on how dense the roll is, if it is a really hearty bread, I'll estimate 3 ounces for a fist shaped roll).  Hope that helps.

subway has calories on it's website.  I looked it up and it's 230 cals on a 6inch.  Good luck :)
