calories to stop the binge and also lose weight

Quote  |  Reply

okay, like I've said many times here, I'm 21 years old, 124lb 5'2, small frame. serious binge eater. need to lose 20lbs. seden lifestyle. small frame.

I want to stop my binge eating habit and yet also lose weight at the same time.

i was wondering if eating 1400 calories a day will prevent me from bingeing. or is it too much such that it will stall my weight loss?

what do you reccomend the appropriate calorie intake is for me then?

don't tell me to use the BMR tool (I've used it already), the reason I post here, is that I hope someone can tell me about it..

 *edit:

I plan to lose 15lb to 110, instead of the 20lbs I said earlier,

104 lbs for someone 5'2 is very thin, and most likely not a healthy weight for you, maybe you should aim for 110-115 lbs.

and are you exercising at all? if so, you may need more than 1400. but if not, i think 1400 would be alright for you.

also, alot of binge-eating is emotional. do you have a counselor or someone you could talk to? it may help you.

Okay, lemme TRY to help you out here. First off, tackle one issue at a time. This means trying to stop the binging FIRST. I would say do it gradually. As painful as it may be to see how many calories you've been eating in a day, you must count everything that goes into your mouth. Then subtract 500 calories. Eat that new amount for a few days, and then subtract 200 more. Keep reducing the calories by 200 every few days until you hit a set point. DO NOT go below 1,660 - as that's what I've calculated your BMR is at a sedentary level.

Now as far as maintaining where you're at while getting out of the binging habit, eating at 1,660 for a week, or until the urge to binge has been demolished, should do the trick. THEN think about cutting back a little for weight loss. But don't go below 1,385 - that's your unadjusted BMR and going below that will only be counteractive. You REALLY need to kick your own butt and start exercising if you can. You can only cut so many calories before you feel like you're starving again, and then the binge cycle starts over. Eating enough and exercising are the keys to success.

i'm a tad confused.

so it means that, for example, while binge eating, I've been averaging 2800calories a day, I should reduce it slowly, for example

3 days: 2300cal

another 3 days : 2100cal

then 1900cal

then 1700cal

then 1500cal

what if this makes me gain even more weight?

oh, to edit my post, I actually average 60min light exercise on the stationary bike per day.

Do NOT worry about gaining/losing weight at the reduction phase. My advice to you is to stay off the scale until you are eating the amount that you wanna stay at for weight loss. Once you've been eating that for a week, THEN weigh yourself.

If you are petrified of gaining weight while reducing your calories, remember this: you would be gaining even more if you weren't eating less. The point to slowly reduce the calories is to not shock your body. If you ate 2,800 and immediately dropped down to 1,500.. your body is used to the higher cals and will be like, "Hey!! Where's the food??" And then you'll feel more hungry, eat more, and keep binging. So just work on eating less to shrink the stomach so you can feel fuller on less food gradually.

i binge eat. it used to be bad. im recovering =) the advice above is good though.

if ur anything like me, your binge eating is almost habitual, so cutting calories, even though still above what you should have, will make you feel better. you also wont gain as much weight. by jumping right into 1400 cal a day after being used to binging, it is going to be hard. its your choice ultimately though.

good luck =)
