I don't binge now since I am being VERY strict with myself, but when I am not caring about what I eat, I could easily go through 1,000+ calories in a sitting. Between fast food meals, ice cream, little snacks...its so easy to do. However, that is why I have to be so strict when getting back on track with my eating habits, otherwise, I will give up.
Luckily, since starting the diet in September, the 1 or 2 binges I have had have not been nearly as bad as what they used to be. (Part of that is the fact I had 3-4 years of therapy to learn how to handle them and I feel what I learned during that time has helped me control them.) However when my binges used to be out of control, I easily consumed 2000+ calories in a sitting with just 1 binge...and never even batted an eyelash while I did it.
And yes, I was actually diagnosed with Binge Eating Disorder in 1994 while going to the obesity clinic at Boston University's Medical Center. Some links about this very real condition:

if i really really binge? i haven't binged really badly in a long time, i do my best to stop myself now, but i can get way the hell up there, if i have a hangover (somehow that causes me to care less/think less - big surprise) and my friend erin comes over and makes a pizza...and takes out ice cream...i'm easily past 2000....
It's usually 700+. I think the worst I ever binged was around 5000. I lost track but a lot of it was the two milkshakes which amounted to almost 1600 calories.
I'm really bad with binging/purging. I've gone days where I've done b/p cycles with 1000+ calories 3 times in one day.

I've eaten about 200 gramms of chocolate about a month ago, and that was it, damn.. I still hate me for doing it, won't happen again, I swear.
for me it's usually around 200 to 300 extra cals, but it's usually if I'm just extra hungry, bored, or I can't get to a calculator. Otherwise I try to be careful because I know I can be a mindless eater sometimes :p But I think I've been doing alot better at listening to what my body is telling me.
shakes are evil, Teresa :p I had to just stop drinking them altogether, it's amazing how many calories are in those things.
I don't think that 200,300 or 500 calories should be considered a binge. I think that's deflecting from people that truly have a problem. I hate it when people say they binged because they ate an apple or a salad. For me, it's usually between 2-4,000 calories. I think people should draw a line between bingeing and just overeating a bit.
I agree, fallingstars. When I binge, I get up to 1,000-2,000 at a time, and the most in a day was about 5,000 but I stopped counting when I reached upwards of 4500. I'm learning to stop myself, and am working towards preventing them in the first place. But at times we all overeat and go over a couple hundred. That's not a binge to me.... it's overindulgence, or just overdoing it a little. Every single person does that, I think, from time to time. Not everyone eats incredible amounts of food mindlessly and/or quickly when they aren't necessarily hungry and beyond the point of feeling extremely stuffed and nauseaus. Now THAT is a binge.
My highest binge was 2000 calories... UGH it was horrible... just last weekend. I ate roasted peanuts, and chocolate chip cookies.. it was bad... I gained 2 lbs that day. I was SOOOOOOO full from the peanuts, but after the salt I "needed" sugar... that was horrible
I don't really know if it's a binge but during summer months, like now, when there are fresh garden veggies and fruits that don't taste like styrofoam I often have 2nds. If it's fresh green beans sometimes 3rds depending on what else is on the table. But since they have less calories than anything else I could be eating (44cal/cup) and I'm in no danger of going over my 1,300 for the day I don't know if that counts as a binge. I mean I don't eat til I'm sick or past the point of being full or anything, but I love garden veggies and will gladly give up something more calorie dense for them.
Edit: Ok, so it's not a binge, but it's a few more veggies than I'd normally eat if my options were canned or frozen and it's a pretty good sized pile of green stuff. Was not my intentions to offend anyone and I certainly didn't mean to deflect from anyone who does have a problem.

^^^ This is what I was referring to. NO a second helping of green beans is not a binge.
i agree fallingstars... I just look away when i see that...
I don't that a binge counts if it is something you would normally eat when being good (ie the green veg), I tend to go ove ron alcohol (which then makes me eat more) although I have just come back from a meal and I ordered the large fish and chips (both deep fried) oooohhhh sooooo tasty but I actually feel sick now! I',m just not used to eating such fried food anymore. I guess next time I will know to either order the smaller portion (cos I was full half through but continued eating cos I hate waste) or just get something else.
Just a word on 'waste'. I do try to keep the thought it can either be wasted in the bin or poo'd out but the fat etc swinging round on my hips...i really should think about that next time!

A binge - per medical outlines - is:
Most people with this disorder (based on medical terms) are either obese or overweight. See this link for more information.
(p.s. Having 2nds of veggies would not be considered a binge. Also, having 200-300 extra calories would not be considered a binge.)
- eating unusually large amounts of food
- feeling that the eating - and life - is out of control
- eat much more quickly than usual during binge episodes
- eat until they are uncomfortably full
- eat large amounts of food even when they are not really hungry
- eat alone because they are embarrassed about the amount of food they eat
- feel disgusted, depressed, or guilty after overeating.
- may, or may not, be in conjuction with bulimia nervosa.

so, my 4 handfuls of roasted peanuts (about 2 cups...) and 6 chocolate chip cookies WAS a binge.... wow, talk about staring straight at me...
i'm working my way out of binging-purgging cycle... my binges were usually at 3000 cals, now they're at 500-700, and that's always after the gym..... dunno... quit the gym?
i've had binges upwards of 3000 calories. it's suprising how much my stomach can hold sometimes.
i can easily eat 1000s cals in one sitting! i could eat an entire pizza if i wanted to then finish off with some ice cream!! a binge is not eating a few extra hundred cals that you can equal out the next day with no real effort!
Im right there with ya Sarah.. I could probably STILL eat an entire pizza and not think anything of it... my problem is eating when i'm not hungry... I could do it all day long. I just had to learn to control it and there are still somedays where I cant...
