1500 cals? Too much

Quote  |  Reply

Hello! Today is my first day using this website and unfortunately I have already hit a snag. I appearantly should be eating around 2000 calories or 1500 since I'm trying to lose weight. However: I'd say what I'm used to eating is around 1000.

This boggles my mind. I always thought I had a healthy appetite and like to stuff my face. I do know that since my mom has cancer: there isn't a lot of "Fun" food in my house but I still have barely managed to eat 1000 and its already 9:18 at night.

I do have a lot of muscles in my legs and I do exercise so I don't think I could really "speed up my metabolism" so what should I do? Is there any healthy high calorie foods anyone could recommend? I mean, I'd rather not have to have junk food or anything.

Nuts, avocadoes, full fat dairy (like cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc), meat if you eat it, and full fat salad dressings not the light stuff.

protein bars, tv dinners, granola & yogurt, bananas & peanut butter...

You could always make a sandwich =)

Check your portion sizes. You could be eating more than you think. Or, if you really are only eating 1000, increase each portion of food you eat. Eat snacks between your main meals. Remember that healthy doesn't mean low fat.

There's a huge list of calorie-dense foods stickied on the weight-gain forum Wink

Enter everything you eat in your food log for a day or so and
see how many calories you are eating. You can't beat knowing
instead of guessing.

Looking up foods here may take some getting used to since
some things require adjustment as to weight or servings, and
not every food is listed. You may need to enter some manually
in the Add It Here section. Just try at least to get the calories if
nothing else. You don't have to enter everything if you don't know
or are intimidated by the form as I was at first.

It can be done, so don't be discouraged.
