cals on indian food buffet
I only got up once at lunch today at the best indian restaurant in town. They have a sunday lunch buffet! Yummy!
I have no idea how many calories I ate and I have no idea what the names of the plates were. On my plate was: butter chicken (bright orange color), small chicken leg (bright red color), some spinachy semi-thick sauce), potato with coliflower (gravy-colored). There were two or three other .5-oz size sauces.
CAN ANYONE GIVE ME AN EXTREMELY SUBJECTIVE GUESTIMATE ON THE CALORIES?
I had very reasonable servings and no, they were not stacked high at all. I did have like 4 slices of naan bread! Mouth-watering. I had skipped breakfast to fully enjoy this lunch and it filled me up all day. I just had some yogurt with blackberries and a drink in the evening. (I rarely skip breakfast or any meal for that matter, so please no lectures).
K! Thanks for your guestimates and help!
At least 1000 calories. Perhaps 1500 with the naan bread. Any cumin rice? I live near a city with lots of "ethnic" food choices, and I've had to look at the butter chicken stats before. The red chicken legs sound like chicken tikka. The potato dish is common, though I don't know the name.
Edited to add: YUM.
Mmm this reminds me I need to hit up my favorite Indian place. ![]()

The red is probably tandoori chicken and it's probably the best thing you ate. Gotta assume most indian food is made with gobs and gobs of oil (or ghee, or cream), even if it looks healthy otherwise. I agree that 1000-1500 is probably in the ballpark, especially with lots of naan.
We have a place near my house called 'cook' and they make really tastey food and freeze it. I picked up a chicken korma dish for 1/2 people and it had 785 cals in it!!! That being said they did have an indonesian veggie curry that was only 300.
So I'm going to guess you were around 1500 also as you had 4 naan breads!
