how many cals do i need?!

my doctor nutritionist and therapist told me i need to gain at least ten pounds and maintain it before i can excercise again. im currently 15, 5'4", and 85 lbs. however since i had/have an ED and am used to eating 500 calories a day, my nutritionist is trying to get me up to 1200 before ticking it up so i really gain weight. however, i want to be able to do winter track in late november and want to know how many calories i should be consuming in order to gain the weight before then (plus time to get ready) and what sorts of foods i should eat. any ideas?

I am thinking you need around the 3000's to gain. Anorexia really messes with the body and metabolism. Listen to your nutritionist, but you need way more than 1200.

I agree, 1200 is not enough to maintain even a normal weight. Think that with each calorie increase you are one step closer to racing again- that's what I've been thinking and it helps me go for that extra (insert really delicious food here).

i too am working to gain weight before my basketball season in the winter.  i am 5'5" and i dropped from 125 to 104 in two months before summer.  i have been on a 4000 calorie diet..making me gain aobut 2 pounds each week.  trust me you are going to need more than 1200 calories to gain..so just enjoy it.  i recenlty have been able to break through my "bad" "good" food labels..and im trrying to just enjoy the foods i was avoiding..last night i went to cold stone creamery..and i have been trying to just eat like a normal person again
