Canned Green Curry - Best Spoon
I get this canned green curry from the Asian market, it is soooo good but the nutrition information printed on the can has to be way off. It is a 13.5 oz can, ingredients are: green chilli, garlic, salt, onion, coconut milk & water. It has 2 servings, 30 calories each, 32 calories from fat (well that is obviously wrong), and 4 grams of fat per serving. It is pretty creamy so how the heck could it only have 30 calories per serving? 1 cup of coconut milk alone has over 500 calories. even if I double what it says it has, it stills seems way off to me. Just by the looks of it, I would say it has at least 1/2 cup of coconut milk in it.....what do you think?
I think you're right - no way does 30 cals for a serving of curry sound right. Does it also list grams of protein and carbohydrates per serving? If so, you could calculate it that way: 1 g fat = 9 cals, 1 g carb/protein = 4 cals. I'm not sure you'd feel any better about trusting it, though, given the obvious misprint.

You might look around for a bunch of them, compare ingredients, and come out with some sort of average guess?
I suspect they have mixed up the calories for curry sauce (what you're describing) and curry paste (a thick spice paste that could easily have as few as 30 cals per serving). Your best bet would be to log the curry sauce as though it was pure coconut milk. It'll overestimate the calories slightly but as long as you're not aiming for borderline calories, that shouldn't be a problem.
It says it has 4 g of fat, 1 g carb and 0 protein. So based on that, it would be 40 calories per serving.
I think I won't buy it anymore and just make my own so I can control the amount of coconut milk!
