I can't take it anymore....

Ok - I am sorry - But I can't handle the grammar confusion on here anymore! Lose and Loose are 2 very different words - but people on here are constantly using them incorrectly. Here is some information from a site I googled to clearly explain the difference:

Loose vs Lose

The words loose and lose are mixed up in writing; for some reason, many people write loose when they really mean lose. But there's no reason to lose your mind worrying about this, just lose the extra o!

Loose

Loose is an adjective, the opposite of tight or contained.

My shoes are loose

I have a loose tooth

There's a dog running loose in the street

Lose

Lose is a verb that means to suffer the loss of, to miss.

I win! You lose!

Don't lose your keys

I never lose bets

The Bottom Line

Simple carelessness leads people to write loose when they mean lose. Just remember that lose has one o, and loose has two. Start with loose, lose an o, and what do you get? Lose!

Again - I am sorry - but it's been driving me crazy!!!!

This probably isn't the right forum... but I support this. It's not that hard, really. And let's fix your and you're while we're at it, oh internet.

hate to tell you but it's not going to stop, it's been brought up a couple hundred times.  I totally understand it makes me a little crazy too but I've had to learn to let it go for my own sanity.  I can't spell half the time so I know I drive other people nuts.

It's when you start getting irrationally upset by misspellings, grammar and incorrect punctuation that you realise you are definitely middle-aged!   I even punctuate text messages.... this, I'm told, marks me down as a 'old coffin dodger' Sealed.

Anyone ever read 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves' by Lynne Truss?  If you like getting all grumpy about the correct use of language it'll have you howling with laughter.

Haha - I am sorry for bringing it up but it was just getting to me!

Thanks for listening!

I am with ya! The other thing that absolutely drives me crazy is the people who type 'text-ese' on here.

You know, like : 'i rly wnt 2 loose wait. i wrk rly rly hrd but nuthn hlps.'

I absolutely HATE that!!

i love waste instead of waist.  "Why is my waste so big?" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Or 'I hate letting food go to waist'..... which neatly (if unintentionally) sums up how most of us end up here...

This is has nothing to do with online typing but my b'f mixes up brought and bought.

Like..

I bought in the case of water from the car. or

I brought the rolls from Quick-Chek.

I constantly have to correct him. I think he does it intentionally to peev me. lol I think my typing ways have changed since I was a teen. Im only 22 but since I've been reading alot more I've gotten away from the short hand typing. Punctuation and spellings are still a little (used to type 'lil') rough but I try to correct the your's and you're and what not.

LOL!! I can't stand it either!!  I was just complaining of this the other day Cool

Bugs the heck out of me as well.  Hopefully those that make the mistakes will see your post and learn something.

Your prolly right but what r u going to do?

Your just waisting you’re time. Their r people out their who just don’t get it.

Bunch of loosers!

^

hysterical!!  tsjej

Yeah, and people never seem to know when to use "and I" versus "and me."  I see this constantly!!  My mom taught me a trick about how to do this correctly--just take out the other person you're talking about, and the sentence will still make sense once that other person is removed.  In other words, if I want to say, "My mother and I went to the park."  I can check it my removing "my mother."  "I went to the park" still makes sense.  It wouldn't make sense to say, "My mother and me went to the park" because "Me went to the park" is nonsensical.  That one gets to me!!  But I think it's because my mother-in-law is always correcting my hubby and his brothers with that one, so I'm hyper sensitive to it.

And I just re-read this and realized that I am such an old fuddy-duddy.  Ahhhhhhh!!!!

The loose vs lose thing bothers me as well. Same with weight vs weigh.

And I punctuate my text messages too...and instant messages.

<Holds up hand>  Me!  Me!  I am guilty as charged.  I am often embarrassed about my own grammar and spelling skills.  It is not that I do not know better.  I just get going and my fingers take over where my mind should be.

Just now I caught myself typing "short sided" instead of "short sighted"  lol

God help me, I even catch myself typing "there" instead of "their" or "wear" instead of "where" .  <sigh>

I swear it is genetic.  I once caught my own mom writing "pastport" instead of "pass port".

Shoot me, I beg you.  Put me down and out of my own misery!  Sealed

I hate that to!!  It's "between you and me," not "between you and I."  Argh!!

It's quite funny to read these posts and see all of the mistakes made unintentionally!

For example: I hate that to!!(should be tooa 'old coffin dodger' (an'old)

I am a grammar snob myself so I get it, but we should all give each other a break.

And I am a terrible typist-so many of my posts are a mess -I just want answers or support sometimes and the carelessness shows.

I, too, punctuate my text messages!
