I can't believe your dog ate that!
I was chatting with a couple of visitors today and decided to quarter a water melon for us to munch on, I gave each of them their quarter, one for me and put the last one down for my pooch, who devoured it in a second. My visitor were amazed that she had eaten it....so we got onto the topic of what else she eats...
Fresh Fruit
- Any kind of melon
- sweet red apples
- apricots
- peaches
- kiwi
- strawberries
fresh veggies
- sweetcorn
- carrots
- broccoli
- cauliflower
- sprouts
- bamboo shoot
Nuts
- Brazil nuts
- almonds
- cashews
- water chestnuts
They struggled to believe that a dog would eat this kind of stuff....."why not"? but it just got me wondering do any of you give your pooch any kind of food like this?
My dog loves strawberries and watermelon. She gets other fruits like bananas, apples, pears, and peaches too. Her favorite veggie is carrots. My husband will sit and watch TV eating carrots and she'll sit at his feet waiting for him to break a hunk off so she can eat some. They are good at keeping teeth clean.
My dogs will eat anything except for green leafy vegetables (like lettuce). I don't know why they discriminate against that since they will eat grass! I guess it just doesn't have much taste/smell.
y0da eats:
- Cantaloupe and watermelon (won't touch honeydew)
- Avocado
- Whole sweet corn husks (not corn from a tin though)
- Carrots
- Cucumber
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Asparagus
- Any sort of stone fruit except cherries
- Apples (with a particular fondness for the core)
- Popcorn (under duress)
Vader eats:
- Honeydew and watermelon (won't touch cantaloupe)
- Lettuce
- Carrots (under duress)
- Broccoli
- Tomato
- Cucumber
- Avocado + skins
- Orange segments
- Cauliflower
- Any sort of stone fruit, including cherries
- On his list is also anything from the rubbish bin, with a particular emphasis on anything dairy that is going bad (aka the whipping cream container, sour cream container etc)
- Popcorn
The one I find weird is that Vader will not touch offal in any way, shape or form. I was under the impression that canines were meant to love viscera etc, but he would prefer the flesh or the feet, but nothing in between.
My old dog used to eat my flatmate's used condoms. That was always pleasant. Apparently leaving them on the floor next to the bed was good form, as opposed to putting them in the rubbish where they belong.

Just wanted to post this link to foods which are toxic to dogs. I saw a few things that people give their dogs appear on this list. Just be careful! :)
over $100 worth of MY shoes.
My dog will eat anything that is accessible to her including:
1. tasty items from the cat box (I know beyond disgusting)
2. Children's Advil (she went to the vet for that one)
3. A chocolate Balance bar (she went to the vet for that one too)
4. Sushi
5. Pretty much anything that is edible and some things that are not!

There is no conclusive proof that Avocado flesh is toxic to dogs. Leaves, pits and skin yes, flesh no. I should have been more clear though, the fat bastard takes the skin, licks off the flesh and spits out little bits of skin all over the carpet. >.<
Also, broccoli is only toxic in large quantities (more than 10% of the daily diet) and I don't believe spoiled food is bad for dogs in the same way it is for humans. The little buggers are scavengers by nature!
My Pup will eat anything..
She loves carrots, salad (have to watch her though, this can give her the poops), melon, sushi, cat food (annoying, but the cat eats her dog food now so I guess they are even), shoes.... she LOVES my shoes. I have to be sure to put them away or they are goners. She eats just about whatever I eat.
Fuzzys...thank you for that link, thankfully mine doesn't get too much broccoli, and oddly enough she must know about mushrooms because I have often wondered why she won't eat them for love nor money. The don't give your dog any bones bit I don't agree with my dog has eaten bones all her live chicken as well....it keeps their teeth clean....
My dog will eat apple cores, green tomatoes right off the vine, ( I gave her a smack for that one as she only eats one bite of each tomato and then moves along to the next one on the vine) . Weird, but she eats pebbles and then chokes them out on the living room carpet in the middle of the night. She loves the kids soggy cereal. She loves crackers and potato chips, ( they have been banished from my house now though)
She also loves frozen food, like popsicles, ice cream, frozen mixed vegetables and frozen meat. In a pinch I'll give her an ice cube and she is pretty happy with that too.
I once had a dog that ate the crotch out of my jeans and underwear, gross eh, the dirty little bugger.
Our dogs will eat pretty much anything if you let them, but they do enjoy chicken poop... and one will eat the others poop too, yuck! I know that rabbits eat their own, but still! Keep it out of the house doggies please!
I don't give her human food, she has a sensitive tummy and I'd rather just not take the chance of another trip to the vet.
One thing I've learned in the course of puppyhood...don't let them have pork. It's not toxic, but most dogs have trouble digesting it and leave lovely messes for their owners to clean up ;)
Yep, my baby girl will eat anything too. She especially likes jalapenos and anything spicy. Plus she is a complete lush, she loves wine and beer!
i'm almost gotten into fights with people before at parties who thought it was funny to give their dogs beer.
My pooch will eat anything!! I haven't found a thing that he won't eat. He LOVES fresh pineapple! I think that's his fav. Just yesterday he ate raw cabbage.
Dogs can not eat chocolate or grapes.. Chocolate I don't know what damage it causes, however, I do know that grapes are really bad for their liver/kidneys..
My dog will eat the pickles off of fast food hamburgers.
