I can't believe that just f***** happened.
I'll get into the details later when I hopefully cheer up a bit but I saw something today that I wish I had never seen. I saw a car blow a red light and clip a 7 year old on a bicycle. He landed 5 feet from my car. It was very graphic and I feel like nothing I have ever felt before.
I am deeply horrified.
You're upset? Imagine how the boy must feel...
I hope you made sure he was okay or tried to help him out in some way instead of just getting upset by the situation.

wow. thanks for the support. I helped carry him to the side of the road and called an ambulance. so if you think I am wrong for being upset, then. I just dont really care.
Yes, he stopped and just kind of stared, I was the closest car to the kid so I obviously jumped out and helped , there were other people running to help to, he was pretty messed up, he was concious but barely with us.

I missed the part where I said it wasn't okay to be upset -- where did you see it?
Anyhow, it's a good thing that you were around to get help. It doesn't sound like that other jerk would have done anything.
schnooder I am sorry that kids had to go through that and I am sorry you had to see that. Its horrible that anyone should ever be in that type situation.
It brings back memories when I was not much older (maybe 8 or 9) when I was hit by a speed red light running truck. Only difference was it sucked my bike under and I fell off to the side of the truck (I guess you could say I was t-boned in a crosswalk by the guy). To this day I am amazed I walked away unharmed. I got checked and the ambulance people told me I could go home.
Because I was young and did not understand all that went on. What happens legal wise when you hit a pedestrian but they are unharmed?

You should get to hit them, with a very heavy object.
Christ that's horrifying. It's tough for anyone to read but especially tough if you're a mother ![]()
I'm so sorry that happened. Hope the boy heals up all right.
Having to help in medical emergencies like that can have long-lasting emotional effects. It's a real trauma. Keep talking about it if you can, and although you will probably visualize the situation for awhile, you'll feel better in time. *hugs*
I'm not sure I'd ever get that out of my head, but I have a really hard time letting things go. That would torture me forever
Do you have anyway of knowing how he is doing?

I am so sorry that this happened and will say a prayer for that child, the family, and a prayer of thanks that you were there to help.
Do you have anyway of knowing how he is doing?
Unfortunately no. But I told the police that if they needed anyone to go to court against the driver that I would.
I'm glad that you were there to help. So many people would have been so shocked by it they would have just sat there and stared. Your quick action gave him that much more of a chance of surviving. I hope the family lets you know how he fairs.
I hope the kid is ok to ride another day.

Where are all of the cyclist haters in this thread. Car blows a light and takes out a kid.
I hope the kid is ok to ride another day.
I also had a close call with a red light runner on a bike, it was a small intersection and I crossed once my light turned green then suddenly this pickup truck goes by right in front of me. I guess he thought he had 'time' since no one was crossing from his side of the street?? not realizing a bike crosses a lot faster than a pedestrian?? but red light runners hit other motorists and pedestrians too, it's not just a biker thing...
anyway I'm sorry you had to witness that, hopefully the kid will be ok.
Was the driver drunk? Did they get arrested? Or was it just a plain red light runner talking on the cell phone.

Read the first two words of your FIRST post. That's where we ALL got the impression from.
Now back to the reason this person posted this...
Schnooder: I hope you can find a way to find some closure. Speak to the officers who responded and ask if there is anyway you could get an update on how the kid is doing. Or simply call and ask if you'll need to go to court. They may fill you in without you even having to ask.
that's so awful. good for you for helping!
and just a suggestion, if i were you, i would try to talk to somebody if it really upset you that much. when i was 16 i had to give cpr to a man who'd had a heart attack, fell over and cracked open his head completely open, so there was blood everywhere. it was so upsetting that i didn't sleep for almost a week after until my parents dragged me to a therapist. i still remember every detail from that day. bad stuff really sticks with you.

I understand what you are saying. There are 5 pages of hatred for cyclist that don't follow the rules. Then there is this post about a kid getting nearly killed by a motorist not following the rules and that seem to be acceptable.
Schnooder-- That really does suck. :( There's nothing I can say to offer comfort I'm sure.
My former manager at my school accidentally hit a girl on a bike who went out into the road when she shouldn't have (no green light). The girl was 6 years old. She spent the night with her at the hospital because the girl wouldn't wake up and they couldn't contact the parents until 4am. Sucks...
