I CANT BELIEVE I USED TO EAT THAT moment?!
I have been having them left and right, and i was wondering what foods any of you guys have just sat staring at in complete disbeleif that you used to eat it all the time?.. im not talking about the occasional 'oh i ate that once' thing... for instance... when i didnt have a care in the world what i put in my body.. i used to eat ramen noodles chicken flavor..literally 1-3 times a day .. and those were just snacks.. I see my bf eat them now and im like how did i not realize those were soooo bad for me?.. thats one of my major instances i have.. another one would have to be tortilla chips with nacho cheese and salsa..me and my bf would sit and watch movies about every other night and kill almost an entire bag when we first starting dating..i cant even imagine why i would do that..obviously it taste great but damn. and lastly wawa or quickcheck subs.. ( yes there are healthier ones, which needless to say im not talking about) breaded chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, ranch dressing, let, tom, yellow peppers all on a big round roll.. most of the times with a soda and bag of chips..
well leave out that pizza hut was one of my favorite places
!haha
ok im amazed at how i have been able to transform what i put in my body from the above diet to a healthy more balaced diet.. took me a while to get through the "find the correct way to eat" phase but im finally there..and i cant see how i will ever let myself get to that point again.
HAPPY FRIDAY !

Reason: Released as sticky
Birthday cake when it isnt my birthday. Lord I can eat an entire birthday cake from the grocery store - the kind with the super sweet frosting. I used to get a birthday cake for myself every friggin week. How i don't have diabetes is beyond me. If only we could stay 25 forever.
I still twitch when I pass the bakery case.
When Top Ramen first came out on the market they were 6 for a dollar. I would eat all 6 in one setting. Talk about stuffed. I can't believe I did that! I also can't believe that when I first got out on my own I would buy a giant bag of Doritos and eat every crumb. No wonder I gained 60 lbs in 6 months!
me and my friends after dance class on fridays would always go to either Mcdonald's or Cafe Capri, an italian place near my friend's house.
at Mcdonalds i would get 2 cheeseburgers, fries, coke, and apple pie.
at Cafe Capri we would get at least one or two huge plates of fries with pizza and super fatty creamy italian dressing to dip it all in. then we'd get a huge pitcher of coke to go with it. not to mention all the bread smothered in butter we'd eat first. and sometimes we'd even get pasta with butter too ahaha. but yet we were all still twigs...
I am shocked when I think back to ninth grade, when I ate a piece of pizza, a bag of popcorn, and 2-3 large cookies for lunch, with a propel. Just for lunch! ![]()
Whole bags of smartfood popcorn in one sitting, sometimes with 1/2 a pint of Ben and Jerry's as a "side dish". Chicken fingers with sour cream and french fries from the pub in college (a couple of times a week at least), grilled cheese and fries from the pub, beer at lunch from the pub, bags upon bags of candy, whole extra cheese pizzas from Pizza Pizza... Etc.
No wonder I ballooned to 226 lbs in college.
I used to be able to polish off a 1 pound box of Godiva chocolates in about 4 days. That would happen maybe twice a year or so, depending on who gave me a box for a gift. Pretty much every Valentine's day I guess.
I've really been thinking and about all I can say is that the problem wasn't so much what I ate but how much. I always had a big appetite. When I was in my 20s and 30s it seemed like I could eat just about any amount and not gain weight. If I did gain I could diet it off in a short time. But as my body aged and slowed down my eating didn't.
Some examples of then and now -
then - 2 big dishes of pasta with 3 or 4 meatballs and bread on the side -
now - 1 average serving (2 oz dry, 1 cup cooked) 1 meatball, salad and some vegetables on the side.
then - two chicken thighs with skin, big mounds of mashed potatoes with lots of gravy, lots of bread and butter and a couple of vegetables, with butter, a little salad on the side.
now - 1 chicken thigh, skin removed, big servings of vegetables & salad on the side and a little dab of plain potatoes, no bread or butter.
See what I mean - same food, different amounts.
The largest fry and double burger I could get. I also used to eat a whole bag of sterzings chips and the sour cream dip. Now I look at stuff with disgust. Well not disgust, but I'm not going there.
Yes going back a decade there have been many I cant believe I would eat that moments.
I always kind of knew what was healthy versus unhealthy, but the stuff that I just flat out ignored was salad dressings, even up to a few years ago I considered any salad (regular ranch, caesar french) healthy. I also used to ALWAYS get nachos at every movie I saw, and would eat entire bags of sun chips at a sitting.
Alright, after I'd gotten sick of smartfood popcorn and it didn't satisfy me anymore, this was my afterschool snack:
First, get a LOT of corn chips into a soup bowl.
2nd, smother with whatever shredded cheese is in the house, make sure that there are no bare spots!
3rd, if we have ranch, put that on before microwaving. If we have sour cream, put that on after microwaving and serve with lettuce on top of it.
I dunno why, but Chips + Cheese + Sour Cream + Lettuce was a HUGE thing for me. Like every day. Lets see, 200 for the chips, 300 for the sour cream or dressing, 300? for the cheese..... Yum yum 800 calories at 3 or 4pm, when dinner was at 6 and lunch had been at 12 or 1...
i used to eat bacon-doubles cheeseburgers, WITH fries.
Haha, oh this thread is awesome.
I have been thinking a lot about this lately! My list contains thing that I ate when I was a kid, before I knew or cared about the ingredients... now that I am health conscious and try to avoid processed foods at all costs, my list is more of a,
"Wow, I used to eat that AND I'M STILL ALIVE?!?!?"
Includes:
- Lunchables (so much fun at a young age but uuuugggghhhh)
- Top Ramen
- Those double packaged chocolate peanut butter wafer sticks... anyone remember those? They used to sell 'em in school snack carts?
- Slurpees
- Kraft Macaroni & Cheese
- Nacho cheese (the neon-looking kind)
- Tony's Frozen Pizzas
- FISH STICKS?!?!?
I was thinking that times were almost better then... before I even knew what a calorie was, or that food could be good or bad for you. It was just... fun!
Ok, some old regulars from years ago include...
Taco Bell bean burrito - sometimes no cheese, no sauce, extra beans, but still!
McDonald's Egg McMuffins - hold the ham (i was vegetarian for 18 years)
Waffle House, aka The Awful Waffle - anything but usually eggs, hashbrowns, grits & ww toast (which is not real ww toast, just kinda browner than the white stuff)
Lean Cuisine - in my 20's, young & single, lazy (i rarely eat processed foods anymore)
"Blow'd-Up Cheese" - uh, cheese toast with a slice of the individually-wrapped chesse food-product. (cuz the 'cheez' blows-up) Occasionally, I will have it on a slice of real ww bread with real cheese, organic now.
Marie Calender's Chicken Pot Pies - FULL of fat & sodium, but Oh, so yummy! Now I just make my own, on occasion.
Oddly, when I ate like that, I was not overweight. Go figure.
Oh yea! And fish sticks - basically breaded & deep-fried bait. Used to eat 'em with tater tots. Now I get the organic variety of tater tots & stick to one portion whereas I'd eat half a bag with half a box of the bait-stix.
there's this website that reminds me of this...it's www.thisiswhyyourefat.com and it's SOOO gross!!! There's these pics of really nasty looking foods, but people actually eat them. But forget "i actually ate that"...i don't think i've ever eaten any of THAT sort of stuff. more like "HOW could you eat that?!?!?!?!"
when i was in high school i was actually underweight. here's what a typical day for me looked like:
Breakfast: entenman's crumb donut
Lunch at school: pepperoni pizza, fries with ketchup, s'mores poptarts
maybe a pack of skittles during the day
After school: 6 inch turkey and pepperoni sandwich on italian bread from subway with mayo, a real coke, frozen yogurt parfait from haagen daaz
Later that night: frozen tony's pizza and a big piece of homemade cake
SAME here!!! ^
in 7th-9th grade
B: 3 bowls of Cinamon toast crunch and a banana
S: Brown sugar poptarts and Dr Pepper
L: 6 inch turkey/cheese/mayo Subway, cheetos two cookies, large raspberry iced tea, and a tollhouse ice cream cookie sandwhich
S: pint of vanilla ice cream and two oreos with 1/2 c chocolate syrup, two bowls of cheerios, and an apple... so healthy
S: hummus and pita bread and shrimp coctail
D: fish, two rolls with butter and honey, corn on the cob with butter, small glass of wine ( my dad is very christian) and two glasses of milk
D: handfull of chocolates
sheesh! weird thing was is that i was stil technically underweight! HA!
About a year ago from now i was such a pig i look back now and think Icant believe i ate that and that much!
If i had lunch at school i would go to the bakery every morning and have:
lift plus, ginger bread man, peice of mud cake and a pizza bread or...
a donut, wedges, chocolate milk and a bag of fruit bursts
But the worst thing i did was when i got home i would have things like:
3 muffins and 2 milos or
half a packet of biscuits and a mega packet of patato chips with 2 cans of energy drink
I honestly cannot believe that was what i used to eat and i didnt do any physical activity at all yet i wasnt fat .
OREOS. I had one entire package, to myself, every week. With a huuuuge glass of milk. Sometimes I dipped my oreos in chocolate milk -- even more calories! Papa John's every week (I'd eat an entire Large pizza in two days + the cheesy breadsticks) and on days when I didn't have Papa John's -- it was either an entire box of mac&cheese or a huge bowl of some other sort of pasta drenched in sauce ... drank Coke like it was my only hope of survival, drank chocolate milk like it was water ... had ice cream every night [[ I use to eat it out of the carton while watching movies ]]
Whenever I had a craving for something, the boyfriend would run out and get it for me ... Doritos (I'd eat these covered in shredded cheese & heated in the microwave .. my white trash nachos, haha) Taco Bell, McDonald's flurry, ... frozen pies )=
I always woke up the next day .. super bloated and with swollen fingers.
chocolate. i could have the whole bar (many many many squares) of cadbury when watching tv last time. ok, sometimes now, which is why i never buy them.
i used to eat macdonald too, but quite after watching some youtube videos revealing the astonishing amount of preservatives in them.
Every morning in high school, I would get 2 or 3 egg & cheese biscuits from mcdonalds along with a few hashbrowns. AND I would eat 2 Super Size fries for lunch dipped in Ranch.
That wasn't an occasional binge, either. That was Every. Single. Day.
I'm ashamed to admit that I'm not ashamed though. It was wonderful being able to eat like that (I maintained a 100-110 lb weight). It wasn't until much later that I experienced any weight gain at all. *sigh*
