I CANT BELIEVE I USED TO EAT THAT moment?!

Quote  |  Reply

I have been having them left and right, and i was wondering what foods any of you guys have just sat staring at in complete disbeleif that you used to eat it all the time?.. im not talking about the occasional 'oh i ate that once' thing... for instance... when i didnt have a care in the world what i put in my body.. i used to eat ramen noodles chicken flavor..literally 1-3 times a day .. and those were just snacks.. I see my bf eat them now and im like how did i not realize those were soooo bad for me?.. thats one of my major instances i have.. another one would have to be tortilla chips with nacho cheese and salsa..me and my bf would sit and watch movies about every other night and kill almost an entire bag when we first starting dating..i cant even imagine why i would do that..obviously it taste great but damn. and lastly wawa or quickcheck subs.. ( yes there are healthier ones, which needless to say im not talking about) breaded chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, ranch dressing, let, tom, yellow peppers all on a big round roll.. most of the times with a soda and bag of chips..

well leave out that pizza hut was one of my favorite places Sealed!haha

ok im amazed at how i have been able to transform what i put in my body from the above diet to a healthy more balaced diet.. took me a while to get through the "find the correct way to eat" phase but im finally there..and i cant see how i will ever let myself get to that point again.

HAPPY FRIDAY !

once I get to like a food, I eat it non-stop.

Yes, most of them have been healthy, and yet to eat something every day, day in/day out is a bit weird.

Now, I am on t his vanilla yogurt, organic p.b./sunflower seed/fax seed combo.  Sounds healthy, right?  Well, try counting how many calories and grams of fat are in that!

I was eating this at least twice a day.  And I'm not talking about small portions.  I talkin' big heavy duty portions.  Had convinced myself it was OK.  That is until I really added up all those calories.  Wow!

I've been through bran muffins/yogurt AND p.b. on multi-grain toast, poached eggs with olives, tomatoes & Cucumber dressing.

I eat unti I get sick of it, which can take anywhere from a couple of months to well over a year or two.   I'm trying to cut down even more on my intake of my present foods.

I'm working out and weight training and would like to see some MORE definition.  I'm making it more difficult for t he muscles to pop.  And yet, I feel pulled toward eat this stuff of late.

I know the feeling of what you all speak of, for sure!

I used to eat everything with butter. Like, i'd dip cheezels in melted butter, vegetables, toast, meat..i even stirred melted butter into hot chocolate powder then ate the gooey chocolatey lumps. Sometimes i actually just cut a piece of cold butter and let it melt on my tongue. Gahhhh.

Also, i'd get mcd's big breakfast then top it up with two extra hash browns.

And i asked for nacho cheese over my sweet popcorn at the movies. I mean like, calcium, right? hahahaha i am obviously fairly self deluded.

Ew. YEARS ago, me and my then boy friend would go to Mc Donald’s about once a week and order a family meal and eat it all: 1 large burger each ( chicken, big Mac, quarter pounderr), 1 cheese burger each, and a large chips that we shared ( and finished!) oh and I used to love sweet and sour sauce, the brown colored stuff SO much that I would literally eat it out of the packet. And dip the occasional chips in it.

Hmmm.. I just liked any sort of weird sweet food too, any cake - like thing I found that looked interesting when food shopping.

I love those K time muffin bars, I would eat one, then go back and eat another… hmm.

I’m sure I could think of others.

DH and I for a while would order Papa John's pizza every friday night and gorge ourselves.  We had fast food for dinner a lot of nights, and that was pretty much all we ate during the weekends.  I would order two cheeseburgers, a McChicken, and a large Hi-C Orange from McDonalds, and have room for a bag of candy when I was done.  This was a "normal" meal for me.  And when I say a "bag" of candy, I mean I would eat from a large bag of skittles, starburst, peanut butter m&m's, whatever I was in the mood for, and eat 1/3 or 1/2 of the bag before putting it away.  (I'd finish it the next day!)  I have a cookie jar, and DH and I tried to keep it "full" for a while; I don't know what we were thinking!

And don't get me started on chinese food!  Everything was breaded, fried, and smothered in sauce, and I'd eat huge plates of that and come home hungry!  I think Satan himself prepares the General Tso's chicken at #1 Wok; sinfully good!  That's the one place I just had to stop going to; there are no healthy compromises I can live with there.  Just too tempting!

an entire giant hershey bar (not king size but the BIG one)

roast beef...don't know why it really grosses me out now

huge bowls of ice cream with big spoonfuls of peanut butter on top

Chips. I could go through a whole bag in one day... or one sitting.

Fast food! My favorite was McDonalds, especially breakfast. I got a mcgriddle with a cappucino and hashbrown. If I ate it for dinner, a big mac or 10pc nugget and large fries with a regular coke.

We also used to have donuts for breakfast on weekends, straight from the bakery. I usually ate 3 with 2% milk and then I probably ate some of the leftovers.

When I went to the state fair, I made it a personal goal to eat as many different foods as I could. I remember eating (not in one day) funnel cake, fried candy bar, pepperoni stick, cotton candy, fries, and ice cream. Plus sugary lemonade and sweet tea.

Oh, and how could I forget vienna sausage... Surprised

I've never lost or gained any significant amount of weight, I'm just interested in nutrition since I'm kinda string bean-y, so it makes me cringe when I realize the kind of foods I ate in high school!

Breakfast: Cinnamon french toast Eggo's Minis and a mixture of evaporated milk, hot chocolate and coffee.

Snack: Salt and vinegar kettle chips or cookies or a croissant.

Lunch: One of those red baron single serve pizzas, a baked potato with tons of cheese, butter and sour cream, a small philly cheesesteak or a BLT. Plus some sort of juice.

After school snack: It really depended. Sometimes it was a doughnut, or some 2 rolls about 2 babybel cheeses, french fries or onion rings or a salad with TONS of dressing or a homemade cheeseburger

Dinner: Pizza, a burrito, pasta with marinara and TONS of freshly grated parmesan, pasta with marinara and tons of butter.

Night-time snackies: Hershey kisses! (we always kept a large supply of those in the house!) and either a few pieces of mahtzo or a thick slab of toasted sourdough bread, either one slathered with butter!

i have so many of those moments...i should probably pick up a few because im too thin now but it was really unhealthy:

breakfast: large cappucino thing from the gas station, 2 donuts--about 800 calories im guessing

lunch: bean and cheese burrito, bag of hot cheetoes about 600 calories or so

dinner: 2 packages top ramen: 800 calories

dessert: about 400 calories worth of ice cream with 300 calories worth of oreos..700 calories

that's almost 3000 calories and i'm 4'11 but i never really gained weight in high school...it's so weird

on game days...i was cheerleader...it looked more like this

breakfast: 2-3 servings cereal with milk 500 calories

lunch: chinese food...800 calories

after school lunch:  500 calories jamba juice, 800 calories taco bell burritos, cinnamon twists, potatoes and cheese

dinner: maybe 2 slices pizza 500 calories

over 300 calories. it's crazy!!

Looking back on my typical day, I should have weighed a lot more than I did. My day usually went like this...

Breakfast was 2 poptarts and a huge glass of milk or 3 servings of some sugary cereal in milk (of course I though I was eating 1 serving since it fit in the bowl)

Lunch was fast-food if I worked: a Big n Tasty, large fry and Diet Coke from MCD or some other combo meal from somewhere. If I was home I would have 2 grilled cheese on white bread and a can of Chef Boyardee.

Snack was 3 cookies and several servings of Cheese-its

Dinner was something like a Huge plate of pasta w/sauce, 3 pieces of garlic bread and canned green beans, or 2 hotdogs in buns w/ a can of baked beans, or 1/2 a frozen pizza, or 6 oven chicken nuggets and a huge amount of oven fries drenched in ketchup.

Dessert was every night - a HUGE bowl of ice cream, or a massive brownie or a big slice of cake - I would alwasy find something!

WOW

Breakfast was a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel (with butter) from the cafeteria at work.

Lunch was a tuna salad, chicken salad, or egg salad sandwich (loaded with mayo, of course), if I was feeling "healthy."  If I decided it was a "fat food day" I would have a slice of pizza with an order of fries or mozzarella sticks- again from the cafeteria at work.

And sometimes for dinner on the weekends, hubby and I would go to McDonalds and each get a large Quarter Pounder with cheese meal and a 6-piece chicken nuggets.

And since I had Diet Coke with my McD's, I would feel justified in drinking almost an entire bottle of wine.

GAH!

I was just thinking about this the other day...

I use to eat what ever i wanted, when ever i wanted..

whether it was chocolate poptarts with milk, oreos, bowls of cereal, chips, hot pockets, cheese sticks, candy bars, cheetos, etc...for dinner when my mom would cook I would always go back for seconds....When i came to donuts from Krispy C....I would never stop at just 1, At sabrarros I could eat a huge pep. and cheese strombolli.....when i went to mcdonalds i usually got 1 double cheese burger, 1 chicken sandwich, 1 sundae and 1 large fry. I am still amazed and disgusted by how much I could eat and not even think about it. At the same time I miss that total lack of awareness I had about what  I was putting into my mouth..

** I know I miss a lot of these foods...but  I know my body is thanking me whenever  I go for that apple or brocolli instead of chips and cookies.

When I was in high school we had a "cookie" drawer. My step dad loves chips a-hoy cookies. He eats so much chocolate and cookies and is the skinniest 60 year old man I know! Lol. Any whoo, I used to always eat 4 to 6 of them at a time. Also gobs of salty mixed nuts out of the can. Now I can't stand the greasyness of them. I worked at McDonald's in high school and I'd make McFlurries with oreos, m&m's, hot fudge, and caramel! Ew lol. I ate so much ice cream there it got to the point my stomach would hurt! 2 years ago I was on a kick of eating Chipotle like everyday. I gained a lot of weight doing that, and wasted so much money :-(. Now that I'm on my own and older I know how to spend my money and know spending it on junk is stupid. But I mean I do splurge for Chipotle every now and then! :-)

My god, i have those everyday, my family eats the same way i used to, so i DO see that everyday. As a matter of fact, i just did when i was in the grocery store looking for frozen foods, i came across something i ALWAYS used to eat. They're called "Hungry Man", and i was like; "Hmm, i never, EVER payed attention to the calories before. If I did, i would certainly not be eating this."

And i looked at the nutrition facts and was stunned.

980 calories for a frozen dinner!

Are you serious? That's insane!!

Thats more than half a day's worth!

It was so shocking. Because now i look back at what i used to eat and read the calories they contained, which i NEVER payed attention to. Which is why i got to 242 lbs in the first place..

Pretty much every day last year I would buy lunch from my school.

On most days, it was a HUGE panzerotti (pretty much a pizza folded in half...like a giant pizza pocket) that took up half of a paper plate, two sugar cookies, and a chocolate pudding with whipped cream.  On "healthy" days, I would replace the cookies with a muffin, and the pudding with a yogurt parfait that, although delicious, probably actually had MORE calories.

At home, we used to buy granola bars/100 caorie packs of snacks in bulk, and i would grab a handful of about five of whatever we had and head down to the computer.  So that was at least 500 calories.

Dinner in my house is rarely light, I would go for seconds every time.  Especially when we had goulash.  I would fill a large dinner plate to the edges.  Twice.

And then after dinner, I would just snack on whatever was around.  For dessert, four cookies was the norm.

Ugh, and I wondered why I wasn't as thin as the rest of my friends...

I used to buy those huge a** LoftHouse iced and sprinkled sugar cookie containers (actually still my favorite cookie.) and eat all 12 cookies through out the day. I think each cookie was about 180-190 calories....yikes.

Now, I simply do not buy them. I know better. Ha Ha. Now if someone I know has them and offers me one I'll take that, but I will not have them in my own house. Lmao. The weakness Ohhh the weakness! Heh. :P

When I was younger, I would eat from McDonalds.

20 piece chicken nugget

Medium soda

1 Hamburder

And that was lunch.

chicken alfredo from olive garden

Not  atypical day, but one that happened often enough was....

breakfast - 2 fried eggs on toast with whole mayo - 500 cals, large iced coffee - 300cals

lunch - chicken burger with side of chips and gravy- 900 cals, juice - 200cals

snacks - ham and cheese sandwhich - 400cals, a glass of milk - 200 cals

dinner -  a whole pizza hut pizza - 1400cals with a bottle of wine - 700cals

4600 cals............holy moly.......

This is what I would eat a few years backwards, I was about 12.

B - 400g very sugary yogurt, some bread

L - A normal school lunch, never ate the salad or veggies

S - A microwawe hamburger with fatty dressing / a huge pile of little muffins / half a packet of spinach pancakes with a tbsp jam on top of EACH / 0.5 liters chocolate milk with 4-10 digestive cookies

D - Normal food my mom cooked. If it was pasta, I would eat a whole huge bowl of it. No salad or veggies.

I studied culinary arts and am a big fan of European cuisine, so you'd be surprised at how classy and not overtly unhealthy the horrid food I used to eat would be. I mean, it could have been the portions, as I made them myself, but man oh man. You'd think vegetarianism was something healthy, but my sweet tooth was insane.

Breakfast would be a bowl of parfait made with Greek yogurt (yes, the fattiest type there is), a handful of granola, and homemade apple-cinammon-brown sugar fruit preserves.

I never have time for food at school, but come noontime I'd have a ton meringue nest cookies slathered in marscarpone cheese or creme fraiche. Sometimes Nutella, but that's only reserved for special days when I need a hit of sugar (a hit would have amounted to 5 tablespoons and about 50 meringue cookies).

Dinner was where I would carb binge. A vegetable quiche with a flaky, buttery crust and made a lot of sour cream, eaten with baked mashed potatoes made with Greek yogurt and aged gouda. Ah, and a whole disc of focaccia. Gloriously dipped in an insane amount of olive oil mixed with balsamic vinegar. Oh man.

Sometimes I'd slip into the kitchen at midnight and make Mexican hot chocolate with whole evaporated milk.

I mean, come on. Quality control led me to believe that the fancy crap I could make was all well worth the calories, but at the end of the day, that's still something like 3500 calories, and roughly half would be eaten at night. I'm surprised I didn't gain a pound a week. Insane.
