Can't do it without CC

Quote  |  Reply

I have been away for a few months and was priding myself that I was maintaining well without Calorie Count.

What a crock, stepped on the scale this morning and I have put on 2 pounds.  I really need the tools here and the visualizing is a good motivation to keep me on track.

Not eating healthy either, well starting today this is going to change.  I am home, feels good to be here knowing that I can get the help I need to get my act together.

Thanks for being here.

Welcome back, amethystwalker.  I am on calorie count for about the same reason.  I don't really like counting calories but I find it useful and this site makes the process relatively painless.  Hope you are able to stick with your plan.
Two pounds in a couple of months?  That's really not a bad thing at all, in fact it's very close to maintenance.  You'll lose that really quickly.  Don't forget that our weight fluctuates a lot anyway - you may have lost thse couple of pounds when you weigh next, even if you don't change anything in your routine.  I think you're right to pride yourself on your maintenance, although think there's nothing wrong with using Calorie Count - that's what it's here for, to support us.  There's no shame in using it forever, if that's what it takes.

Good luck and don't be hard on yourself!

Hi, Amethyst, I agree CC is great for support.  I find it much better than any Weight Watchers meeting I ever attended.  Everyone gets a chance to speak.  Lots of people are going through the same things as you.  And, best of all, there are so many really intelligent, witty people on this site that you can always find a good laugh or an inspiring thought here.

I admire and envy you for catching the weight gain at just two pounds.  I've lost weight before but, because I wasn't vigilant, the weight has "crept" back on while I wasn't paying attention.

I've been hearing consistently that people who are good at maintaining frequently weigh themselves, and can catch themselves if the weight starts to creep back up. It's great that you've caught it at 2 pounds, and not 10 or 15! You can easily lose the 2 pounds again, and back to maintaining. I hope to do the same once I'm maintaining (someday), so good for you! You're an inspiration!

Guess I wasn't too clear, I stopped my effort to lose a few months ago, lots of upheavals in my life.  Got myself a little bit more on track but I still have the original 30 more pounds to lose plus the 2 I put on.

I have already lost 80 so I know that I can do it if I get my act together.  Thanks for the support, don't feel like such a dork anymore.

I have never posted before.  I like what I read here - everyone is so positive.  I am 67 and have had a "weight problem" forever.  Actually, during my 20s and 30s, maybe even 40s,  I was probably just fine - but always felt fat.  Now I know I need to lose at least 30 lbs.  Because I have scoliosis, I have very little length between my bust and my hips, so always feel I have an unattractive body.  However, it works and has served me well!  I am healthy, but way too lazy.  I say I will start exercising when I retire - but I have been putting that off for the last few years.  Now it is either this March or next March.  I think I will do better with losing if I combine calorie cutting with MOVING.  I guess I'm just hoping for some motivation.  Thanks for listening!
Glad: Take heart.  It can be done.  I will be 65 in March and aiming for retirement in about 5 years.  You will need to start slow and build some momentum.  It took a while to put that weight on and it will take a while to actually get rid of it.  Think of it as a 5 or 10 year project that starts with lifestyle changes.  I recommend that you get some sort of professional assistance in designing your exercise program, diet and goals.  When you are first starting out, it helps to have someone walking you through the process.

I agree with one of the above posts about CC being better than Weight Watchers. CC is here for us ALL the time, not for just one hour a week. I've been on CC for a bit over a month and am still going strong and I've never lasted this long on my own (well, I'm not really doing it "alone" because I have CC all the time). Anyway, I don't know where I'd be right now without CC. I hope it's around FOREVER.

Gladtroll: My parents are 67 and both have had weight problems for as long as I can remember.  About 5 years ago my mom had to have a quadruple bypass and for a while that was a big eye-opener for her.  She started eating healthy and lost a little weight.  Unfortunately, she's gained it back and then some, and it worries me because I don't want to see her go through another bypass.  I want her to be with me for a LONG time.  As for my dad, he retired just a few months ago and was recently diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problems.  He's supposed to hike the Grand Canyon with a few of us this coming summer (this'll be his 4th or 5th time) and he also worries me.  He's been exercising and trying to eat healthier I really don't see weight coming off.  He has to take about 7 pills a day now and says they make him feel really "blah" and he feels like they're slowing down the weight process.  Now that I see what they're going through it, I realize how important it is that I take care of myself now.  It has proven to me that carrying extra weight really does affect people in so many different ways....so many different diseases due to being overweight.

Sorry for rambling on about them to you....I guess by you saying you're 67, it made me think of them, so I guess I just wanted to "talk about it" and about my worries about them.  Anyway, keep trying to lose that 30 lbs you want to lose and don't give up.  Even if you can do just little things to get active (park further from the entrance at the grocery store, buy little weights and use them while you watch your favorite show, maybe buy a stationary bike and put it where you'll use it often, etc.).  I hope all goes well with you....and maybe you should post more here, that has helped me tremendously.  :-)

Thanks a million!  The journey begins today!!  I actually have the business card of a young woman who is a personal trainer specializing in both scoliosis and older exercisers - of course, I got her card 5 yrs ago,  Wouldn't want to rush into anything, you know (unfortunately, that is how the weight has crept on - I just keep putting off diet and other behavior changes(.  So thanks again for the encouragement.

You don't have to do it without CC!

Bear in mind that your 2 lbs could be a normal weight fluctuation...I didn't used to believe that weight could vary up to 10 lbs in a month, but I believe it after weighing myself daily over the last few months.
