Who CAN'T eat goodies in moderation?
I can't do it. I am currently trying Weight Watchers where the diet allows you to have a small piece of cake, or brownie with your mealplan and for some reason when I eat "goodies" it triggers something in me that makes me go on a binge.
I just cannot eat 5 of my favorite potatoe chips and put the rest away until next week. I just cannot eat small portions of really good food. It tastes so good that I want it all until I am fully content which is a lot. That's why the food tastes so good otherwise it wouldn't be packed with so much flavor!
I don't even like diet food that tastes too good. I like something that I am indifferent too, I don't have to eat it but if I do, it tastes good enough for me to not want to eat it all at once
Once I went on a very successful diet where I had no junk food. If I don't eat it all the time, then I don't want it. And that is what I am going to have to do now.
Recently, I had some salad with some grilled chicken and haven't had a sweet tooth so far..when I eat foods like that it doesn't trigger me to overeat
I behave in EXACTLY the same way. IDENTICAL!
I have the exact same problem, so what i'll do, is if my boyfriend offers me a bite of his ice cream or brownie, i wait until the very end and eat the last bite, so even if i wanted more -- oh well, too late! =)
good luck!
What works for me is buying portion sized snacks (100 calorie snacks). SO many people say that they're a rip off and you could just get the full sized one, cut it in half and save the other half for later...but I will eat the other half immedietly.
It helps me going through one "package". I feel satisfied. and don't feel like having another package or bag.
With the portion sized snacks I'd probably end up going through the whole box..especially the oreo cookies! Yummy! I tend to leave those alone they taste too good
Depends on what it is. Pizza is a no-no for me unless it's portion controlled. French fries, bread & butter, most 100-cal packs - it's usually the carby stuff that gets me. I can have things like ice cream and soda in the house and not go crazy on them for some reason but brownies, muffins, cookies etc. set me off big time. Chocolate too - if I have chocolate it can't be a whole bar or bag of something because I am incapable of saving some "for later". Single serve portions only.
I find that the more satisfied with my "regular" mealplan, the less problem I have controlling my eating when faced with a "special treat". Special treats only trigger overeating for me if my regular meal plan is too restrictive.
That said, I wouldn't buy a 16 ounce bag of nacho flavored Doritos to keep in the house while I am restricting calories. And since it doesn't meet my definition of "food" but is a "food-like substance" I probably will never keep it in the house again, even when I am at my ideal weight, if I have any sense at all....
You are not alone. This is a huge problem for me also. I can't help it, I just love dessert too much.
I recently discovered "light" icecream cones, Drumstick and Skinny Cow both make excellent ones with all the chocolaty icrecreamy goodness in a cone coated in chocolate and filled with caramel. These light versions have half the calories of a regular one depending on the flavour between 140-180 cals.
I find them perfect for my snack tooth because I can simply eat the whole thing no stopping will power involved.. well except for the rest of the box in the freezer but I have incorporated them as a snack in my diet plan almost daily.. I mean icecream is full of calcium right it's not thaaat bad for you :P
it's either all or nothing for me. It's becomming to be quite the problem. Either I eat the whole box; or; I eat nothing at all.....so not good!!!
I have the same problem. If I buy those 1 point weight watchers chocolate cakes for example, I eat the whole box (six of them). It's hard but I'm all or nothing too. Out of sight out of mind. I have been struggling and think I'm going to have to do the same thing.
I think it's pretty common to have a trigger food. Wheat is mine. Sometimes when I eat bread, cookies, or cake (even cereal can be dangerous) I don't want to stop. Luckily, eating 5 times a day has shrunk my stomach, so I get full quickly these days.
I've found that sort of 'trigger eating' has happened to me with the whole "cheat-day" senario. I just can't do it! I'll have one plate of food i know is bad for me, and then i'll have another - telling myself, 'to live a little', that turns into desert and before i know it i've bought chips, soda, chocolate and am off my plan for days afterwards.
I guess some people are able to dance with the devil (aka junk food) and not get burned, but i'm really not one of them.
I'm pretty good with sweets (went out with my fiance over the weekend and had a small bite of his chocolate brownie caramel thingy and was fine with that) but carbs are my killer. Popcorn, pasta, potatoes, rice - I have a very hard time eating those in moderation.
those weigh-tatchers boxes of brownies are EVIL! I bet they put those on the market so we would eat the entire box thus gaining weight thus having to go back onto WW just to eat the whole box again. Vicious cycles are so money-making!!
this is me: grocery store + brownies + car= caloric ride home....
That's pretty typical. I'm the same way. I can't eat anything in moderation. I either restrict, or binge. I either spend three days eating nothing but pasta, or three days eating nothing but sweets, or three days eating all veggies.
Once I get a taste in my mouth for something, it's all I can think about eating.

when I first tried them I wasn't expectin for them to taste THAT good. i thought they were going to have a funny aftertaste that will make you eat just enough. boy o boy those things are the real deal. i heat them up, and they taste so delicious, it's so fudgey and chocolate it's like a dream. I swear I haven't had a cake that good in a long time
i actully thought they were gross- like a strange tea aftertasting- but they are so addicitive- I can't even PASS by them in the store- no matter how full I am before I go to the supermarket since that's the cardinal rule....I could eat 10 pounds of steak w/ fries and still want them brownies....
and thanks; jayla; for making me want them even more heated up LOL!!
i'm glad my daughter is sleeping so I can't leave the house since no one else is here :) b/c I'm starving and would go out to get some!
I don't know if this will help anyone else, but if I have a bad sugar craving, a slice of swiss cheese or boiled egg white will calm it down. Weird, huh?
I'm pretty much the exact same way. I quit eating sugar a year and a half ago because I realized and accepted I was a serious sugarholic. I feel a million times better!!

Hello. My name is ........., and I'm a sugarholic.
It all started so innocently, I'd just have one. One small bar of a bag of mini-bars. And before I knew it, I'd have finished the whole bag of mini-bars and be rifling the cupboards for biscuits and sending out for tubS of ice-cream. The shame!
So now, I stay away from sugar. I don't miss it if I don't have it. And when I get cravings for badness, I reach for either the snack-a-jack salted rice-cakes or the honey jar. No matter how bad the sugar-craving is, a couple of teaspoons of honey will satisfy it.
