Can't hold my water!

Quote  |  Reply
Question........I've been trying to increase my water intake. Yesterday, during the couse of the day I drank about 60oz of water. This doesn't include 2 of cups of tea in the evening and 2 cups of coffee in the morning.

Holy Cow.......I was running to the bathroom ALL FREAKING DAY!

I know I need water and can give my second cup of coffee (sorry, the tea stays). Does this get any easier or do I need to buy porti-potti?

This sounds funny, but I actually like that I have to run to the
bathroom all day. It makes me feel like I'm flushing out my system.
I've noticed as my body has gotten used to the increase water intake
that I haven't been going as much, but I still go quite a bit.

This is not going to help much but I'm thinking of buying adult diapers lol!
It won't get any better, I have been running for months, highly annoying.
I have the same problem! As a matter of fact, as I type I have to go to the bathroom! Unfortunately, I work as a receptionist and I cannot leave my desk until I get the sales cord or my manager to cover for me and there ar times when they are busy. Luckily, in the afternoon, I'm not answering phones, I go upstairs to do accounting. Soooo, I try to drink 40 oz of water in the morning and 60 oz in the afternoon. That way, I don't have to ask them to cover every 10 min. I usually end up needing 2-3 bathroom breaks from 8am - 1pm.
I have the same problem. It has gotten better for me. I drink about 5 liters of water a day and when I first started I went ALL the time. I still have to go more than I use to but it did slow down eventually.  It took about a week for my body to get use to the extra water. During a work day I probable go 4-5 times a day vs the 2-3 before I upped my water intake.
I completely understand. Sorry to say it doesn't change..maybe gets to longer period then every 5min. But it's constant. I am just lucky the bathroom is only a few steps away. Which sometimes is not good.......... (yuck).

Good luck and keep on drinking!: )
Your body does eventually get used to it. When I first started upping my water intake, I went probably every half an hour... Some days I still do, sometimes it's less than that.

On the plus side, all that water is good for you and seems to aid fat loss.
AND it gives you an opportunity to exercise! I use a bathroom on a different floor, taking the stairs to do so, and when I get back to my office, I do 20 wall push-ups! :-D
Athena....LOL! We certainly do get a little more excercise out of it! Actually, I've noticed that since I've been drinking more water, my muscles don't get as tires and my skin looks better!
my skin looks soooo great and hydrated now that i'm drinking a ton of water.
I have noticed that my skin has been looking great lately, but didn't attribute it to drinking more water.  Now I see the connection!  BLESS YOU, WATER!
omg Athena! I do that too! Plus my bathroom is also on the second floor so it does give me excersize! That's soo funny!
I figure I have to build exercise into my day, because if I don't, I won't get much!

There is a ladies room right across the hall from me, which comes in handy when I've had a little *too* much water to drink, or been a little *too* slow to do something about the inevitable result of my water intake!

Someday, I'm going to start going two floors up to the bathrooms there.... but not today!
IF you really wanna push yourself, you could walk up to your floor, instead of taking the elevator or escalator.

I know I work on the fifth floor and *I* am not ready to try this task!
When you first up your water intake it is normal. After awhile you body will adjust to holding larger amounts for longer. Mine did. I used to have to go every 2 hours it felt like, now I only go about every 4 or so hours, depending.

Keep in mind, many foods are also largely water, so that adds in too.
Cranky, every two hours.... is my dream!! Just call me One-Hour-Sally!

HK, yeah, I could do that, walk up the stairs to my office, but .... not yet. My knees couldn't take it! At a previous job, I had a coworker who used to take the steps up to our offices... on the 10th floor!
Lets just say I piddle alot....every 20 minutes to an hour depending on the day.....tinkle, piddle, its all the same to me....i put up with it.
Today I drank over 135 oz of water (thanks to christen) and I seriously needed to go the bathroom every half hour, but I was only able to go about every hour (have to have someone watch the phone while I'm out). It was really annoying, but I'll keep it up and hopefully it'll get better! Got to stretch that bladder out a bit or something.

I've considered taking to stairs to my office...but it's on the 17th floor. And that's just crazy talk. Especially in heels.

I keep trying to up my water intake but seriously I have to go to the bathroom every 10 to 15 minutes. I cannot take it.  I was thinking maybe I had that Overactive bladder thing but if everyone has this problem then maybe not.

Now when people say it won't improve does that mean If I actually keep drinking lots of water I will always have to go every 10 to 15 minutes? If that's the case then I won't be drinking that much water! Which is sad since I really want to.
i think your bladder does increase its capacity, but only if you "train" it.  that means NOT going immediately when you feel the urge.   at least that's how it's worked for me.    i can get through the whole night now, and go only three to five times in a day.  i'm trying for 75 oz of water a day.
