Quote  |  Reply
I am so fustrated today, Just venting here. But I work out with my treadmill for 45 minutes atleast 5-6 days a week and just started doing and exercise program on fit tv for 30 minutes. I eat about 1300 calories a day consisting of weight control oatmeal for breakfast a sandwich on wheat with turkey breast and ham for lunsh and usually a lean cuisine for dinner. I work nights so i don't eat anything after 700p at night. My snack is usually an apple of granola bites 90 calories. BUT I just don't understand why I can't even lose a pound. It so makes me want to stop. Why am I doing all this work an nothing is showing. It has been about 3 weeks now and I am not losing weight but maybe 2 lbs. I dont drink soda mostly water. HELP what can I do. I want to give up. Maybe I am destined to be heavy. I am 5'4 at 180 lbs. I need to lose 40 to be at what is healthy for me. ANY advice or help would be much welcomed and thanked.

But why does the calorie counter tell me that I need to eat 1600 calories a day. I am not eating 1600 I thought by eating less than what it tells me to I would be in the range.? I should only be eating 700 calories a day then?
I dont know who that was.... looks like their post got deleted.. just ignor what they said.. some people have nothing better to do....

Anyways.  Your cal slook good.  But you are very close to 1200 (the low limit) and you are working out a lot so maybe you should eat a little bit more (like 100-200 cals)  especially if your body is not used to all this.  Im not an expert, Im new myself but I know you dont want more that a 1000 cal defecit per day.  I do toally understand your frusteration. Its been over a month for me and Ive only lost 3-4 (it keeps jumping around) but I did my measurements and Ive lost 1in on my waist & hips.  So I know something is happening. Maybe your should keep track of that too:)

Keep it up!  Your on the right track.
No sweetie. Stick with what cc told you. Tobethin, or whatever he went by today, is a troll. He comes here only to make rude and hurtful remarks. Please disregard anything he said.
Most likely, you are not eating enough calories for the day.  Out of curiosity, I checked what you should eat in order to lose weight, for your height and current weight (you didn't state age, so I guesstimated at 25 yrs - if that is way off then the amount will be different), and it says that your BMR is 2168.  That is what you burn normally, resting... so you need to take 500 calories away from that, which brings you to about 1600 cals/day, which is about what you should be having to lose 1 lb/wk.  You should not have more than a daily deficit of 750 calories.  Now. if you are exercising on top of this, you need to make sure that your caloric intake (between consumed and burned off) does not fall below 1200 calories, because then you are messing with starvation mode, which is not good.  Starvation mode will work against your weight loss goals.

Well that helps alot. Maybe I am not eating enough then. What is the deficit 750 mean. I am knew to this thanks also for the site I will read up  on that. I guess I just feel if I can get by on the minimum food then I am doing good but maybe I should find some more calories but healthy ones. I so appreciate the input. I helps alot.
It means... (for example(

Take the amount of cals your body uses doing nothing: 2000

Plus The amount of cal burned doing exercise, etc : 300

So that is 2300 cals your body is useing for the day

Then subtract what you ate for the day : 1600

So your deficit is 700 cal . This is how many xtra cals your body will take of your weight - and 3500 cals = 1 lb

Hope this makes sense...

I assume you are a member of a gym. If so then check with a member of staff and they will help.
You might be working at too high a rate so you end up building muscle instead of burning fat.

I am no expert so maybe one of the other members can give advice o the level of exercise you should be doing.
Are you drinking enough water?  If I eat processed foods (lean cuisine) and they are high in sodium I retain water.  Personally, I drink 80 ounces of water a day.  I ate a piece of smoked salmon and went up 2 pounds the next day because of water retention.  I also believe that you should be eating 1400-1500 calories a day.  Give it a try and see what happens :-)
The same thing happened to me.  I was walking 2-4 miles a day and actually gaining weight.  The I added some very light weight training (just 3 lbs weights) and some conditioning (sit-ups etc) and the weight is dropping off! I have lost 7 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks and I feel great!
Hey! First of all, when the body has such a large 'energy' deficiency, it will take anything and convert it to fat for storage. It's a genetic thing, and traces back when we were a more mobile people and often didn't eat for days at a time. So we shunt fat like to save for harder times. So, cut back your cals but only 200 / day. A thousand is insane, and your body will take you food and shunt it.

Secondly, cardio is the best way to lose weight. Sit ups, weights etc add to you body mass as muscle. So start hitting the tredmill, and start speed walking or running 20-30 minutes daily.

Also, don't measure yourself by weight along, but how you look, feel, and by your waiste size too. I am sure you will see you are shedding of useless layers of fat.

You might need to just eat more....

if you're not taking in enough calories, your body can go into "starvation" mode, and it will hold onto every little bit of available fat.

Take into account the calories used when you're excercising as well.  It sounds to me like you are way under.

Wow, you have a lot of self control with your diet! My best guess is that it's that whole starvation mode thing that's gettin you.  This is just a guess but, maybe it might be the sodium in the Lean Cuisine?  Iv'e heard that frozen dinners have TONS of sodium, and maybe your carrying some water weight from all of that salt, and it's not showing your progress on the scale.

I would try some weights. Start slow and gradually increase the amount and reps.  Also, when you excersize keep it consistant.  Walking or running each morning is great.  It's hard to stick to at first, but I always run around the same time each morning. If I miss a day or two, I just don't feel right.  But that comes with time and patience.  Try not to get so frustrated (I know it's hard) I think that sometimes it takes a while, and there are a few set backs before you find what's right and what works for you.
